As a multi-instrumentalist composer, producer, and engineer, I bring a unique blend of creativity and technical expertise to every project. My focus and dedication to music earned me a degree in music composition from Columbia University, where I got extensive experience in audio engineering and music production.
Hey there! I'm J and I'm dedicated to delivering exceptional sound in my mixing & mastering services.
What to expect from working with me:
- Communication: I'd love to hear about your musical inspirations and sonic goals.
- Collaboration: Please send me all tracks dry (unprocessed). If you've made any edits or have a rough mix, feel free to share those as well.
- Professionalism: I promise to deliver a song that's ready to compete with well-known records within the agreed time frame.
- Tuning and editing: Tuning vocals and creating realistic drum sounds should be a no-brainer. Your music will have the professional sound every audience deserves while still sounding natural.
I'm currently collaborating with indie films, podcasts, and mixing singles for rock bands.
Looking forward to making some music with you!

Coming to the end of working on our first album with J. and continue to be impressed and happy with their work - last few tracks of ours have some mellower parts (we're alt rock and mostly heavy guitars/drums) and J. has done a great job keeping these in the same vibe as the rest of the album.
Would highly recommend!

continues to be a pleasure working with J. on our music. this last track had a lot of elements going and they were still able to bring out dynamics and energy from the stems that we weren't able to do ourselves.
would highly recommend!

This feels like it's going to be one of our more radio-ready, pop-rock-adjacent tracks, and J. has done an excellent job bringing a catchy amount of energy to this entire song.
Would definitely recommend them if you're wanting an engineer that's considering audience and industry impact as they work (and not just doing what they think sounds good with no regard for how we the artist are hoping to brand the music). Kudos!

Working with J. on this track allowed us to get into some really fine details of a part of the mix that I had not been thinking about before they brought it up. Really appreciate their attention to detail and desire to make sure every element of the song is at its best.
Would highly recommend!

Really great work by J. on this track! They were quick to turn around and worked through a couple tweaks I had missed in my initial edits I provided.
Would highly recommend!
Hey, Joshua from Amos Ender here. We are currently working with J on our upcoming album and have been really impressed with her work. She's greatly improved upon our own DIY efforts at mixing and really made our tracks come alive and get BIG (we're an alt rock band with a bit of drama, so that mattered a lot to us) in a way that we were unable to.
Would highly recommend her for your next project!
Interview with J. Roman
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I've worked with both, and will always prefer to work in the box because of portability.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will take your project seriously, and my work won't be done until you're 100% happy with the results.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I absolutely love collaboration and working with so many diverse artists. It makes me so happy hearing back from my clients telling me how awesome their music sounds, and that they didn't know it could sound THAT good! - It truly feels like I'm empowering them to achieve their dreams.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What is your favorite band or artist? What is your favorite album to listen to? What aspects of their sound do you love the most? Can you share details about a specific song, such as its lyrics, the history behind it, or the inspiration for it, that can help us understand it on a deeper level?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Don't be afraid to share your vision, no matter how big or impossible it might feel.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started as a multi-instrumentalist, then took production classes, then got a degree in music with a focus on composition, sound art, and sound engineering. With all my skills, I've been doing a mix of things: from sound design, to indie film field mixing, to live sound mixing, to music production, and so on. That's why I like saying "I work on sound", and not just one specific thing. I have been working in sound for about 5 years.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Alive. My mixes sound very punchy and exciting, while expressing the character and journey of the song.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Take some time to understand the song and the vision that your artists have for it.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Rock and all its sub-genres
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I understand the value of the soul of the music above making things sound 'cool'.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a lot of my personal growth into the music I work on. I grew up in a very diverse sonic environment, and developed my music career without the restriction of falling into one specific music genre. I'm also a contemporary classical composer, and I know the value of originality. I want my clients' songs to be able to compete and stand out among well-known records.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I like to take my time to live with the songs before going straight into mixing. I ask my clients for details of their vision and inspirations for their songs, and I do my best to honor that. Because of that, I don't do rough mixes. I'm pretty much aware of what needs to be done by the moment I come to my studio to mix. After submitting my mixes to my clients, we work on revisions (which usually are 1 or 2), until my clients are 100% happy with their mixes.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio is set up for mixing, and some light tracking for acoustic and electric guitars.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I focus on bringing out the soul of songs in awesome mixes that are radio-ready.
