Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: NDA says I can't discuss this. But Hotboiiz by EBK Jaaybo is only a prequel for whats to come.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. Certain things, a plugin can't fix, like clipping for instance, if you use a compressor before recording, chances of clipping while maintaining a high input level are low.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Quality. Quality. Quality. We guarantee your audience can hear the difference, they just don't know there's a difference. We promise top of the line quality work.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The passion. It's more about making a record, not a song.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: WE. DON'T. PUSH. BUTTONS. Engineers can't just "make you sound good" on a whim. Normally we are extremely critical of our work, and we need time to perfect the mix.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: How long have you been working on music? How many songs do you have out? Autotune, or Melodyne? How do you expect me to make you sound purple?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Be picky, but open. Not all engineers have an ear, and some have an ear and ideas to bring to the table.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Microphone, headphones, laptop, distressor, and a generator that runs on sand.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: We've been in business for 20+ years. Starting in the basement, then moving into our first commercial studio, and then moving again to the location that earned us multiple platinum and gold plaques.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Natural. We do our best to make you sound like you're in the listeners room with them, not recorded over a microphone.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Mix your beats, and leave headroom.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Typically rap, trap, and RnB, but we also get a couple country bands and rock bands that like to record with us.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Listening to the artist.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: We have a history of redefining standards for our city, artists, and other industry professionals.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Generally mixing, mastering, and Dolby Atmos, but we also focus on production and vocal production.
