Interview with ICONN

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I'm developing a new concept EP with a female singer, she had so many difficult situations and traumas in her past and we're combining bachata witth d&b and bulerias with dancehall, we are creating a library in the process because we're design all of our synths and fx and drums from scratch, so it just me and her, I work as a producer, beat maker, sound designer, co written and also put some back vocals in a couple of tracks, so it's interesting because so many girls can match with her story and feel that someone understand what they passed through

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Always creating new beats for sell and ghost writting, also working on my new releases.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: ¡This is a genious community, I recommend to trust in all the creators that put their services right here, including myself!

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital because I like to change my enviroment and it gives me more flexibility, but when I want to polish my ideas I'd like to record the full version of voices with analog gear, but for mixing and mastering I also prefer digital.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I will open your mind and teach you a way to make the art timeless and unique, I promise that you will do the things different after our first session!

  14. A: ¿HOW YOU DO THAT? A/That's my job mate

  18. A: My question

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Feel free to express what is in your mind, doesn´t matter how crazy you think that could be, We are creators, we love challenges, and that is what make our job meaningful.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Ua sphere dlx - Arturia microlab - Slate vms - Apollo solo - Macbook

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I starting learning guitar and make poetry 10 years ago, I decided to start as a Ghost writter and got the opportunity to sell a couple of songs as a teenager and I started to study laws focus on music bsuiness meanwhile I started to also produce tracks, in 2020 I decided to bring myself to the stage and also sing my own creations and since them I started to learn everything I know about marketing and project mannagin & concept development. The last year I was working in NYC as a Sync Agent for a domincan republic artist and I learned how to move myself in that business, so I can say that I've been in all the different perspectives of the music industry in those years

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: That is the best question, I define my style as "Nobrand" because I got so many genres and influences combining in my head anytime I make music so it's impossible just name one ahead of the others, so in my head I play a puzzle with my influences and that is the beauty of my process, because the elegance for me remains in be authentic, and be yourself, and you're not just one thing, you're not just one brand.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Rosalia is my main goal, I think that she can see through the layers what is really important to bring and keep in the songs, and make the minimalism something really accurate, she just need 4 or 5 tracks to make something really powerful and remarkable and that is priceless for me, also she has a stunning voice.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Trust so much in comping and layering, is the most efficent way to create perfect tracks and whole new vibes.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Latin Urban Music, Reggaeton, trap, dancehall, drill, afrobeat and my prefer one Up Tempo. What make me different is that I love create percussions with the bachata and merengue samples and all that african instruments that we have in the coast of Colombia

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Without doubt, think out of the box with references, both melodyc and writing references, I wrote once something like, you look like marge and I'm like the one who wrote the odyssea (Homer) and also I love creating beats with samples of random viral videos and make melodies with them.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: Harmony, full comprenhesion and a real storytelling, I love to bring the small details that can really upgrade the song.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: Usually I have a chat with my clients about the feeling that we want to express within the song, for me the concept is everything and that lead me to create a track or a melody or the exact words that really mean something, I love generating a plus with effects that make the storytelling stronger, sutffs like for example if you talk about paparazzis, I'd put some voices and flashes sounds behind and panning, or even one time I made a song with the concept of celebrating success in a plane, so I decided don't use a bass because I want to give that freedom and flotating vibe of being flying, so that is what I mean when I said that I let the concept lead me

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I make all my music in my macbook, trully believer of digital emulations and modeling gears, Using Logic Pro for recording and mixing voices and Ableton live for making beats, mixing tracks and mastering. I made a setup that can pack quickly and move it because I enjoy changing the vibe of the place to get more Inspo, I mix everything with my beats pro and wavex nx modeling plug in.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Kanye West - Pharrell - Tainy - Sky - C Tangana - Rosalia.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Full production from the scratch to the release campaign, I love create full concepts since the first chord to the last day ofr release, I really enjoy developing a full immersive experience.
