Interview with Sonic Vision
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I’m especially proud of my work on the Solstice Rider full album, a Melodeath release where I handled the mixing and mastering as well as arranging additional orchestral layers. Blending melodic death metal with cinematic elements required precision, depth, and a clear artistic vision and bringing those worlds together was extremely rewarding. I’m also proud of my work on the A Billion Limbs full album, a technical death metal project. My role was mixing and mastering, shaping a dense, complex production into something powerful, articulate, and impactful without losing the raw intensity of the performances.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Right now I’m working on an orchestral Hip-Hop track featuring atmospheric strings and unique 8-bit drum textures. At the same time, I’m producing and mixing a new symphonic progressive death metal track, blending massive guitars with cinematic dynamics and complex arrangements.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: At the moment, I prefer to focus on my own work and deliver the highest quality experience directly, so I don’t recommend anyone specific on SoundBetter.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital! it gives me precision, speed, and endless recall. With today’s high-end plugins and hybrid tools like Softube Console 1, I get the depth and character of analog with the flexibility needed for modern production.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise a detailed, genre-focused mix that respects your artistic vision. I commit to clarity, communication, and delivering a final product that feels powerful, modern, and true to your identity.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love transforming raw recordings into something impactful and emotionally powerful. Hearing a mix come alive especially in heavy or cinematic genres is the most rewarding part of what I do.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Clients often ask, “Can you make my track sound bigger and more polished?” My answer: Absolutely as long as the performances and recordings are solid, I can bring power, clarity, and balance that translates across all systems.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That mixing and mastering can “fix” everything. Great results start with strong performances, clean recordings, and properly prepared files. My job is to elevate what’s already there not to rebuild it from scratch.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I ask about their vision, reference tracks, influences, and what emotional impact they want the final mix to deliver. I also ask about the recording chain, DI quality for guitars/bass, and whether they need re-amping or editing.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Choose someone who understands your genre and can enhance your identity, not change it. Clear communication, organized files, and strong performances make a massive difference in the final mix.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My ADAM Audio A8H monitors, Sennheiser HD 650 headphones, ENGL Powerball II head, Shure SM7B, and my Radial reamp kit. With those five pieces, I can shape tone, analyze details, and create music anywhere.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started as a guitarist and producer, which naturally led me into mixing and mastering. Over the years I built a studio focused on precision, power, and clarity for heavy and cinematic music. I’ve been working in audio for many years, continually refining my craft through real projects and dedicated practice.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Modern, punchy, and immersive. I combine precision and power to create mixes that hit hard while remaining clean, balanced, and emotionally driven. My style brings depth, weight, and clarity to heavy and cinematic productions.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I’d love to work with artists who push boundaries in their genres, musicians who blend intensity, emotion, and innovation. Collaborating with creators who strive for a big, cinematic sound inspires me to elevate every mix.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Always start with a clean and organized session. Tight editing, proper gain staging, and well-managed dynamics create the foundation for a powerful mix especially in heavy or layered genres.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I focus on Metal, Hip-Hop, Rock, and Orchestral music. These genres let me combine precision, energy, and atmosphere from aggressive guitar tones and punchy drums to cinematic strings and massive low-end.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Delivering powerful, polished mixes that maintain clarity and emotion even in dense arrangements. I specialize in balancing heavy guitars, deep low-end, and cinematic layers while keeping every element impactful and defined.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring impact, depth, and emotional clarity. Whether it’s the aggression of Metal, the groove of Hip-Hop, the grit of Rock, or the scale of Orchestral music, I enhance the song’s core identity while delivering a modern, powerful sonic signature.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I begin by understanding the artist’s vision and references. Then I clean and organize the session, shape the mix with clarity and punch, apply subtle vocal tuning if needed, and finalize with a polished master. I keep communication open at every stage to ensure the sound matches the artist’s intent.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio is built for precision, power, and accuracy across Metal, Hip-Hop, Rock, and Orchestral music. My main monitoring system is centered around ADAM Audio A8H monitors for detailed midrange and deep low-end clarity, paired with Genelec 8030 CP speakers for neutral referencing. This combination gives me a highly reliable perspective when mixing everything from aggressive guitars and punchy drums to cinematic orchestral layers. My interface is the Focusrite 18i20 3rd Gen, housed inside a Grossmann ISO Box, keeping the system acoustically silent and thermally stable even during long recording or re-amping sessions. For critical headphone monitoring, I use the Sennheiser HD 650, known for their honest and natural response. For guitar and bass, my setup includes an ENGL Powerball II head paired with a selection of high-quality speakers: Celestion Vintage 30, Celestion Pulse 12, Jensen Jet Tornado 12”, and Eminence Legend BP 122. Combined with the Radial Engineering Reamp Kit, this gives me a wide tonal palette and crystal-clean re-amping capabilities for heavier genres. My microphone collection includes the EV RE20, Shure SM7B, Shure Beta 57A, Sennheiser e614, Sennheiser MD421 and other dynamic and condenser mics ideal for vocals, amps, acoustic instruments, and room capture. I work in Logic Pro with premium tools from Plugin Alliance, Slate Digital, UAD, and hardware integration through Softube Console 1 Mk III and Softube Fader Mk III, giving me tactile control and analog-style workflow. The studio is treated with acoustic panels for controlled reflections and consistent monitoring, ensuring my mixes translate with precision on every system.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I’m inspired by producers and engineers who push sonic boundaries, those who craft immersive low-end in Hip-Hop, cinematic depth in Orchestral music, and the raw intensity found in Metal and Rock. Their innovation shapes my approach to sound.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I provide professional mixing and mastering for Metal, Hip-Hop, Rock, and Orchestral music. Artists come to me for a powerful, balanced, and modern sound that enhances the emotional impact and energy of their productions.
