I am KaterUnser, a DJ, producer, composer, and music production mentor based in Berlin. Specializing in melodic and hypnotic techno, I offer instruction in electronic music production, sound design, and standout arrangements. I also assist with mixing and mastering, and my mentoring programs help collaboratively create and elevate your tracks.
I will teach you how to produce electronic music, especially dark melodic, hypnotic and raw/deep techno. We will go through music theory, arrangement, composing, how to come up with ideas, escaping the loop, sound design, mixing, and mastering. In addition, we also discuss your musical ideas and tracks and I provide feedback during the sessions. This can lead into my full mentoring program, where I tailor a course for your exact needs to elevate your music skills.
In my full mentoring program, I will teach you music production from start to finish and help you build your skills over time. After estimating your level and talking about what you want to improve on, I will develop a course suiting you and your learning abilities. You will get exercises and deadlines for certain parts (mixing, arrangement, sound design etc.) and we are in constant exchange via a messenger of your choice. It includes weekly live lessons (2h) via Discord where I show you techniques and how to improve, and I'm always available for feedback during the week. After this course, your music will sound more professional and unique. I also give you tips on mindset, about the general music industry, how to structure your studio sessions, and time to be more efficient. I also provide valuable info about how to build and sustain a professional artist career. I also offer one full year of mentorship.

Interview with KaterUnser
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: My live set, a lot of music and improving myself as an artist.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both have their advantages and disadvantages, I would not settle for only one or the other.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will always give 100% and provide the highest quality at the time.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: It is the ultimate freedom of expression! I've also met so many amazing artists which now became close friends along the journey.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Dark, atmospheric, cinematic, deep, obscure, soothing at times.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I think it might be Luigi Tozzi. His way of production is very introspective and clean.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Never accept boundaries - there are no rules to creativity!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Usually, I work on raw deep hypnotic techno or cinematic music. When it comes to electronic music, I focus on the darker and more obscure realms of techno, blending hypnotic melodies, haunting atmospheres, and dystopian sounds. Although I love hopeful and cinematic melodies and atmospheres!
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill lies in my perseverance and endurance, coupled with the ability to intuitively produce music infused with emotion.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I contribute a fresh perspective, introduce new sounds, and ensure high-quality production to enhance the song. My goal is to make it sound unique and different to cut through.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My typical work process involves a heavy reliance on sampling and resampling my own sounds, alongside extensive sound design sessions. I adopt a creative and sometimes chaotic approach to discover intriguing new sounds. However, I balance this with a straightforward and highly organised workflow to maintain high-quality music production standards.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio setup is primarily digital, leveraging a streamlined "in the box" approach. Key components include the Ableton Push 2, which I use for hands-on music creation and performance. For monitoring, I rely on Genelec 8341A studio monitors with GLM, known for their precise and transparent sound. Additionally, I've custom-built all the absorbers and bass traps in my studio to ensure optimal acoustic treatment and sound quality. This setup allows me to produce, mix, and master tracks with a high degree of control and accuracy. In addition, I regularly experiment with new hardware such as synthesizers, modular equipment, and outboard gear. If something aligns well with my workflow and catches my interest, I incorporate it into the studio setup.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: The musicians and music production professionals who inspire me include Amotik, Kas:st, Polar Inertia, Keith Carnal, Recondite, .VRIL, Luigi Tozzi, Antonio Ruscito, among many others. These artists are known for their innovative approaches to techno and electronic music, each bringing a unique sound and vision to the genre. Their dedication to pushing the boundaries of sound design and composition continually motivates me to explore new creative avenues in my own work.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The most common type of work I do for my clients involves a blend of mentoring and hands-on services in music production. I provide comprehensive instruction in electronic music production, focusing on sound design and creating standout arrangements. My mentoring programs are designed to guide clients through the entire production process, helping them develop their skills and creativity. In addition to teaching, I offer professional composing services, crafting unique and engaging music tailored to each project's needs. I also provide mixing and mastering services to ensure the final tracks are polished and ready for release. This combination of teaching, composing, and technical expertise allows me to support my clients in realising their musical visions from start to finish.
