Malthe Toft on SoundBetter

Mix and Mastering engineer. Mixes and masters pop, rap and more. 8 years of experience with industry recognition.

Hello. We are Malthe Toft. I'm a mix and mastering engineer based in Copenhagen. I'd love to mix/master one of your songs for a very good price. I've helped a bunch of artists the last couple of years with their production and mix. My role as a producer/mixer/mastering engineer is to make the artist's vision come to life. I'm very passionate about music and having a great conversation about what direction the artist wants to take their music. My experience has made me good at translating everyday language to mixing/production terms.
I'm looking forward to hearing from you. :)

Interview with Malthe Toft

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I worked on a project that I actually started myself with 3 guys from my school. In the group I mix, produce, master and rap. So a bit of everything. I’m really proud of this project because I had the feeling that our music meant something to people. We saw it everyday at our school where people would sing our songs and gather around to dance and have fun.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I’m helping many local artists from Denmark with there production, mix and masters.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: No I’m new to the platform.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: I’m all digital, because I often move around and then I don’t have to bring much else than my computer and some headphones with me.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I always promise to deliver on time and do quality work.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I love getting to be apart of so much different music. I also like helping artists expressing themselves through the music in the best quality possible.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: What’s mastering?: It’s the last glue to make a song whole

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: People don’t understand that mastering and mixing is a creative process too.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: Do you have any songs that you want your song to sound like? Which singer/rapper do you sound like? Do you have a deadline for the song?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Always get a feeling about how collaborative they are in their communication. If there’s no conversation or questions back and forth, the result is not gonna be good.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Computer, speakers, microphone, audio interface and midi keyboard

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Daniel Caesar, The Kid Laroi and Joey Bada$$. I would like to work with these artists because I love their sound universe. I feel like I could learn a lot by working with them while also tapping into the universe.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Don’t make decisions based on what your eyes might see on an Equalizer or a compressor. Always close your eyes and think to yourself “does this sound good”

  32. A: I usually work with singer-songwriters or rappers

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Understanding my clients vision and executing based on that.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I’d say I’m the last 30% of the song. When I mix and master I give it that final touch that it needs before being put out on streaming services.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: When I mix or master a song i start by doing my basic standard approach and then afterwards I start referencing the track to songs that might have the same vibe.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I have 2 monitors in a good acoustically treated room. I also have a microphone and industry-standard headphones.
