Audio Engineer: Mixing, mastering, recording, overdubbing.
Hi, my name is Johnny Vine. Owner and Manager of Grey Eyes Dark.
I Attended Sacramento City College for Commercial Music and Audio Production. I got first hand demonstrations and education from Recording engineers like Kirt Shearer for live and studio recording, Frank D. Cook for Pro Tools recording techniques, and Reggie Graham for Ableton and Reason.
I work on projects in my own personal recording studio that I have built from the ground up. Equipped with modern recording equipment and a nice selection of microphones, music instruments, and studio monitors. As well as a 5x8 WhisperRoom for a controlled sound environment.
I am very skilled in Recording, mixing, and mastering inside of Ableton Live 12 Suite and have a large selection of utilities both in and outside the DAW.
I'm skilled and a jack of all trades in variety of musical instruments. And usually use my talents as a musician to better understand the recording and mastering process.
Ten years ago I began my journey to change my career as a Tool & Die Machinist to create and engineer music and other audio productions. I'm extremely eclectic when it comes to music and have a life long passion for it. I love helping other musicians realize the sound and vision they have for their projects.

Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Personal music projects, voice acting, and audio book narration.

A: Can I re-do that guitar solo?
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What kind sound are you going for?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Please learn how to consolidate your music files in your DAW of choice so when you send them to me I don't have to make everything line up. That takes forever.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: All I need is a second hand 2i4 audio interface, computer, 1 mic and a keyboard. Oh, and I guess some kind of power supply.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I'm almost done with my associates degree and Sacramento City College in Commercial Music and Audio Production but my hands on experience with the recording process is much longer than that. From being behind the microphone to being behind the mixing console, I have over 10 years in producing songs, dialog recordings, and voice acting.

Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Rock, synth, experimental, punk, metal, and even background music for commercials and videos.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I'm a jack of all trades when it comes to musical instruments. (Guitars, keys, vocals, drums) However, my talents with mixing and mastering tracks is where my specialty lies. Do your vocals sound horrible in the mix? Gimme a minute, I'll fix that.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I'm able to fit, and automate tracks to sit well in a song, while being able to keep an exciting dynamic range.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have my own recording studio at my home. Fully equipped to record a full band. I have multiple guitars, bass guitar, high quality microphones. A 5x8 WhisperRoom sound booth with it's own keyboard/monitor station to to see what is happening in the main area.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
