Caleb Durant

Recording/Mixing, French Horn

Caleb Durant on SoundBetter

I'm a classically trained Recording Engineer, specialized in acoustic recording and Dolby Atmos Mixing. I've worked with a variety of talent ranging from young students to Grammy winning musicians. I have training in live sound, post-production sound for film, and I hold a degree from the USC Thornton School of Music in French Horn Performance.

I offer a range of services, mostly based around classical recording and production. As a classically trained French Horn Player I can anticipate and understand the needs of a classical performer, and can ensure that the recording process is absolutely as comfortable as possible. Pairing more than a decade of experience as a performing orchestral musician with a high technical knowledge and skill is what sets my recordings apart from the rest.
I also have experience in the Immersive Audio world. I do mixing in Dolby Atmos and 5.1, and have mixed a variety of genres of music, as well as film in immersive formats.
Outside of the world of music I have worked as a production sound mixer, boom operator, dialogue editor, foley artist, sound designer, and re-recording mixer. I also have many years of experience in Corporate A/V and Live Sound.

Interview with Caleb Durant

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: Digital all the way. The convenience and adaptability in the digital world are just too powerful to ignore. You can do things digitally that aren't even possible in the analog world, or that would be incredibly design challenged and cost-prohibitive to realize otherwise. With digital I can work faster and better, and that's what matters to me.

  3. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  4. A: Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro Headphones, Sound Devices Recorder, MacBook Pro, Schoeps MK4 Pair, and a Video Camera

  5. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  6. A: I've been a musician for 14 years, I've been working in audio for 8 years, and I've been working as a classical recording engineer for the last 4 years.
