Interview with Paulo - Madsoon

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I believe it was the track "Breath." It was something I made for myself without any pretensions, just to put it in some spotlight. But overnight, it reached places I never imagined and opened doors for me to be among the producers I wanted to be with. I believe it’s the project I’m most proud of, especially because my role was to do everything from the kick of the track to the final finishing (mix and master).

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Currently, I am focused on understanding micro-details in my productions to achieve more unique results.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: SAVG

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: It depends on the situation, but lately I've been flirting a lot with analog because its imperfections bring unique characteristics. I love the control and "perfection" of digital, but nothing compares to the unique artifacts that analog provides.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: Bring your ideas to life and deliver the quality you desire.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I think it’s the fact that I get to do what I love, and that gives me more inspiration to put extra care into my work.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: How did you make the track sound like that? My answer is always: "Saturation."

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: I believe it’s about making different sounds. It’s quite funny trying to explain that a sine wave has transformed into something complex and full of movement, and at the same time, they don’t understand anything.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: How committed are you to your project to take it to the next level?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Que conselho você daria para um cliente que está pensando em contratar um profissional como você?

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: A generator with solar charging, a laptop with charger, Starlink, my ATH-M20x headphones, and my audio monitors.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I started getting interested in music when I was 12 years old. I remember exactly the day—I was listening to Drum n Bass (it was a track by Tristam) on Monstercat, and I looked out the window. For a few minutes, I caught myself thinking about making music. I started researching, but back then, there wasn’t much information available on the internet. Then, when I was 13, I began studying classical music at a conservatory in my city (cello). I studied classical music until I was 16 and finished my studies as a cellist. During that same time, I was also taking a game creation course, but I was really bothered by not having audio in the games I was making. That’s when I downloaded Ableton for the first time and started trying to produce music. For a long time, I kept switching between FL Studio and Ableton, but in the end, I stuck with Ableton. Eventually, I fell in love with audio and I’m still studying and improving to this day.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Chaotic, technical, and full of details and textures.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I think the artist I would most like to work with is Sleepnet (Noisia). I believe he is an excellent producer with skills that even I sometimes can't understand. I believe that besides an interesting sound coming out of it, this collaboration would also bring great learning experiences.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: If you have a mono audio signal and want to create a wide and interesting stereo effect, I recommend using the Hilbert Transform technique to generate a perfect 90-degree stereo phase shift. There are several ways to do this, but MeldaProduction plugins already include a built-in Hilbert algorithm that works great for this purpose!

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: ately, I’ve been working a lot with minimal and dark Drum and Bass, but I often find myself diving into sound design for Neurofunk and House as well.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: I believe my strongest skill is my ability to create sounds from scratch without relying heavily on external materials. Of course, any tool or contribution is welcome, but I always take pride in my sound design skills and my ability to craft the exact tones and textures I envision in the moment."

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I believe it's my artistic vision and sensitivity. Music is something you have to feel — when you're producing, you need to understand what the track is asking for in that moment and how to bring that sound to life. Combining that artistic intuition with strong technical skills is what creates something truly special.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: My work follows a straightforward workflow: I focus on understanding the narrative my client is aiming for, along with their references, and put a lot of effort into sound design to achieve a unique and satisfying result. I deeply value originality!

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: It's a very simple and functional setup. I believe that knowing how to make the most of what you have brings more solid results. In my case, I use Audio-Technica ATH-M20x headphones and a room with acoustic treatment, equipped with EDIFIER R100 monitors.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Noisia and most of the artists signed to VISION Recordings — such as Ternion Sound, Koan Sound, Holly, and Machinedrum — are some of my biggest inspirations, both creatively and technically.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: When it comes to tracks, clients usually request Drum and Bass and House music, but I always have a high volume of work focused on mixing and mastering.

  • More about meMay 21, 2024

Hello everyone! I’d like to introduce myself a bit more. I’ve had a passion for music production for 10 years and love exploring all genres, but electronic music is my comfort zone. I'm very interested in Pop and Rock projects, where the intricate and detailed work requires extra effort and precision.
