Interview with André Scremin
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Strayhouse’s album! I produced, mixed, and mastered it, and even played guitar on some tracks. It’s raw, alternative/grunge/heavy, and full of great melodies. I loved working on it!
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Mixings, Masterings, Vocal editings, Productions...
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I’ve listened to some mixes from other engineers, and they absolutely rock! Amazing!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Why not both?
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Listening carefully to the artist’s requirements and doing my best to achieve their goals — while giving honest feedback and creative suggestions throughout the process.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: When the song sounds amazing through the speakers — that’s the best feeling!
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Most clients ask for samples of songs I’ve mixed or mastered, and about revisions — which are unlimited, and I’ve never had any problems with that.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: People sometimes believe that mixing and mastering can fix a bad song. That's not true. First, we focus on the song, arrangement, melodies, etc. Only after that will mixing and mastering enhance its potential.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I usually ask clients to send their rough mix and a few reference tracks from artists they like so I can understand their vision and direction.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Hit me up and let’s talk about your project! I’m a down-to-earth guy who truly loves making great music.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: AKG headphones, Yamaha monitors, SSL interface and an extremely good PC!
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: With years of experience as a musician — including performing in professional cover bands — I eventually began writing my own music. From there, I transitioned into producing, recording, and mixing for other artists, a journey that started more than a decade ago.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Rock / Alternative / Pop Always melodic.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Every artist who has great songs with authenticity and good melodies.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: I always try to do what feels right for the song. I’m a seeker of great melodies.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Rock, Alternative, Indie, Pop
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I’ve been a musician since I was a kid, so I’ve been training my ears since then. In 2016, I released an instrumental album called “Mysteries”, which was a finalist in my state in the category “Best Instrumental Album.” I blend my musical sensibility with mixing and mastering to translate the artist’s emotion and energy into sound.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I put all my knowledge as a musician, producer, and mixing/mastering engineer into every project I work on.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I always start by listening carefully to the artist’s song and talking with them about their references — always trying to understand their musical vision. My goal is to translate that vision into the track.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Most important thing is that I work in an acoustically treated room, which helps my mixes translate perfectly everywhere. I’ve got professional gear from SSL, Yamaha, and AKG.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Chris Lord-Alge is my favorite mixer, for sure! When it comes to production, every majestic rock, alternative, or classical song inspires me.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mixing, mastering, rock/alternative production, and vocal editing. Always aiming to enhance every aspect of the song.
