For example, I wouldn't mix bass and drums in metal music the same way I would mix them for rap.

Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: When working on a song that has several instruments, especially if many of them of similar frequency ranges, you don’t need to mix it in a way where every instrument is equally heard. Automating volume so different instruments stand out more at different parts of a song can make it sound so much more captivating and keep listeners on their toes. Be intentional and strategic about the automation though.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I normally work on pop and rock but I’m open to anything. I would really love to start working with metal bands, rappers, and classical musicians.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I can make the most repetitive and monotonous tracks still sound extremely lively and emotive.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: (Some of this will vary depending on the taste and preferences of the person I’m mixing for) 1. Create track stacks and add aux tracks and busses as needed 2. Lower all the tracks and master fader to -3db for more headroom 3. Automate volume for each of the tracks. I’m very intentional and strategic about what tracks are louder or quieter in each part of the song, depending on the effect I’m trying to create. 4. Apply high pass filters and remove any unwanted frequencies. 5. Boost specific frequencies to add warmth, edge, sparkle, etc. 6. Use side chain compression and stereo panning to reduce frequency masking, and create a fuller and wider sound. 7. Automate EQ. Certain EQ settings may sound ideal in one part of a song, but not another part. 8. Compress whatever tracks need compression. I normally only use light compression, unless a track has really sporadic dynamics. 9. Add linear phase EQ and compression plug-ins to each track stack, to “glue” the tracks together in a seamless way 10. Apply reverb busses. The type of reverb I use depends on the instrument. For example, I generally prefer plate reverb for drums and spring reverb for guitars. 11. Automate reverb for each track. Songs sound more interesting when there is variation in reverb. For example, I like to add extra reverb during solo sections. 12. Add extra plugins depending on my personal taste or the taste of the artist I’m mixing for. 13. Add multipressor, limiter, expander, spreader, and linear phase EQ plugins to the master track (as needed) 14. Listen to the bounced mix from different headphones and speakers and make adjustments as needed.
