Interview with Mixedbymurrel

  1. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  2. A: Put it out! Don't sit on things long enough to second guess yourself and no record will ever be perfect. Let it go and put the music out.

  3. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  4. A: Hip hop and Rnb

  5. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  6. A: I am relentless and dedicated to improve upon my workflow and sonics to the point of obsession.

  7. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  8. A: I bring the energy and soul out of the song and deliver the most pleasing depiction possible whist also adding my own flavor of sonics to put my stamp on every record

  9. Q: What's your typical work process?

  10. A: I like to start by getting accurate and pleasing sounding recordings, then I start processing main vocals, followed by backgrounds and then forming the music and instrumentation around the vocals

  11. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  12. A: I'm setup in my home basement. I have treatment lining the walls and I am equipped with a Slate VMS ML-1 that feeds into my SSL 2 channel interface. I use pro tools and am mixing on a set of 4.5" studio monitors.

  13. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  14. A: My mixing engineers mount Rushmore so to speak are the likes of Teezio, Leslie Brathwaite, Jaycen Joshua, Dave Pensado, Devonn Terrell to name a few. Artistically, I like the sounds of Eminem, J. Cole, Drake, Jack Harlow, Justin Timberlake, Kendrick Lamar, and many many more.

  15. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  16. A: I usually work with artists on the recording of their songs but primarily as the mixing/mastering engineer. I take on primarily hip hop and rnb projects but am always looking for new challenges to expand my pallet.
