Interview with Lula Miranda
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Lana del Rey. She is such an amazing artist in every way, the production level of her songs, her lyrics and her whole style is a whole different world which I would love to explore.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I try my best to understand the essence of the artist and what they want the song to sound like. I think the key is I can help capture a hook and lyrics, working from another standpoint, with a fresh mind and different ideas. Team work is the best way to bring the best out of a song in my opinion.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Ive worked with different clients. Artists have asked me to write 100% of their songs from scratch (lyrics and melody) Many others, I would say most of them, send me their demos and we tweak a few melodies, correct a few bars to have stronger lyrics and check full structure.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital, of course!
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What do you want the song to be about? Having a clear idea on what message you want to transmit, what mood or emotion you want the song to generate to people while listening to it is super important. I want my clients to know what they want and be specific so that we can both succeed on our job!
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Ive been singing since I can remember. I started my professional career 7 years ago and recorded 3 albums. My second album was produced by Chris Whright and recorded at Abbey Road Studios. My song "Cherry Kiss" was on MTV charts for best new music, and "Carousel" was number 1 for a whole month. Writing songs and being at the studio has always been one of the things I most enjoyed about music so I decided a few years ago to start working as a co-writer and top liner for other artists.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Soft dreamy vocals, im very much about transmitting emotions.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Songwriting, melodies, vocals
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Getting to know the clients requests and asking for references, so as to understand what they truly want, is my first step. Once we know where we are heading they send me their instrumental (If wanting a track produced it is an additional price). I usually work on the demo on 1/2 sessions, so as to get the client updated and listen to their feedback. Once the song is fully written and we are both happy with the result Ill jump into the studio and record final vocals and edit them.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Staying creative and collaborating with people all around the world is what makes me love my job.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I would advice them to be detailed in what they want and to send me references. The more information I have from what they want the better the result. Its important to understand each other from the beginning.
