Interview with Pablo Castellanos Scherer

  1. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  2. A: Prepare.

  3. Q: What's your typical work process?

  4. A: My process varies for the type of work I'm doing but it always begins with some sort of preparation, and that can be showing up to a writing session with a previously thought guitar lick or chord progression. Then there is a lot of brainstorming and then I remove what is superfluous. I follow by re-iterating what is essential in the most intentional way possible.

  5. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  6. A: My studio setup is currently a simple yet effective one. I have one 4-input interface and a more portable 2-input Scarlett that I can chain for 6-mic simultaneous recordings, for drums for example. At home, I have a pair of 5-inch JBL Mk.II speakers and Beyerdynamic 770 pro DT (32 Ohm) headphones that guide me through mixing. I also own Sound ID Reference for flatter and more accurate sound representations through my system.

  7. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  8. A: Mk.gee is one of my most recent inspirations, particularly because of his all-encompassing prowess. He writes, performs, and produces his music, and all to a very high degree. This is what I hope to achieve in my work.

  9. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  10. A: The most common type of work I do for clients is production. In our productions, I get to know the songwriter first; we hang out and determine a vision and purpose for each song, and we sketch demos together. Once the demo is finished, we move on to polished recording and add or takeaway elements from the original demo a needed. We work until we are both happy.
