Interview with Tony Scott Beats
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: There was a project where I worked closely with an up-and-coming artist on their debut EP. It was rewarding because we crafted their entire sound from scratch, and the reception was amazing. My role was in both production and artist development, which made it even more special.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I’m constantly working on artist development projects, fine-tuning tracks for release, and experimenting with new sounds.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I’d recommend checking out other professionals who share a passion for high-quality sound and innovative production.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. I love the warmth of analog gear, but digital is essential for speed and flexibility in modern production.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I’ll ensure your sound comes through exactly the way you envision it, and I’ll push you creatively to bring out your best.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The creative freedom and the ability to bring someone’s artistic vision to life.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: How long does it take to finish a track? It depends on the complexity, but I focus on getting it right rather than rushing.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: People often think music production is just about making beats. It’s so much more—it's about crafting a full experience, balancing the technical and creative sides to elevate the track.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I ask about their influences, what sound they’re going for, and what their long-term goals are musically. This helps me tailor the process to their needs.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Find someone who understands your sound and is willing to push your creative boundaries while also being respectful of your vision.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Laptop with FL Studio 20 MIDI keyboard Interface A good pair of headphones Portable solar charger (gotta keep it going!)
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I’ve been doing music for over 5 years. I started by experimenting with production and gradually built up my skills, working with artists across different genres and developing a unique approach to artist development.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is versatile, moody, and atmospheric. I love blending hard-hitting beats with lush, cinematic soundscapes.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I’d love to work with Travis Scott. His approach to blending sounds and pushing boundaries is something I admire, and I feel like we could create something epic together.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Less is more. Don’t overcrowd a track with too many sounds or layers—let the core elements breathe and shine.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I typically work on hip-hop, trap, and R&B, but I’m open to working with any genre. It's all about helping artists craft a unique sound.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My ability to hear what the artist is trying to achieve and translate that into a finished product. I focus heavily on sound design and the overall production quality.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a deep understanding of sound design, structure, and mood. I help artists not only with production but also in finding the right emotional tone and sonic landscape that fits their story.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I start by understanding the artist's vision. Then, we’ll go into pre-production to figure out the right vibe for the track. From there, it’s about laying down the foundation with the right beats, melodies, and harmonies. I refine and mix as we go, ensuring the final track feels right emotionally and sonically.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My setup is a blend of analog and digital gear. I work with a powerful DAW FL studio 20, industry-standard plugins, and analog synths for that warm, textured sound. I also have a high-end interface, studio monitors, and a good set of headphones for critical listening. Everything’s geared toward capturing the clearest, most authentic sound.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Travis Scott, Mike Dean, and Metro Boomin are my top inspirations. Their sound is innovative, and they’ve mastered blending different genres and pushing boundaries in music production.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I focus on artist development and production. My work revolves around shaping an artist's sound, making sure their vision is captured while also guiding them through the technical and creative process to take their music to the next level.
