Stuart Cunningham is a classically trained audio engineer trained by top industry professionals, like Lenny de Rose (studio engineer), Alfio Annabalini (Studio Engineer) and Chris Crear (Mastering Engineer). Stuart provides professional Mixing, Mastering, Audio Editing, Production, and Dolby Atmos services.

STUWAV is the stage name of Stuart Cunningham. His music is a unique sub-genre of rap that features experimental elements of trap, hip hop, trip hop, metal, and electronic music. His work showcases his talent in production, song writing and high quality audio engineering. His work is uploaded across all streaming platforms. Stuart specializes in rap however has been trained to work in all genres when it comes to mixing and mastering, always adding his unique flare to any work he touches. He wants the best for the artists that he works with and is easy to understand the artists vision.

Stuart was born and raised in Hong Kong, China. From an early age he was captivated by music and sound in general. He started composing music in elementary school through digital softwares and started working in professional digital audio workspaces at the age of 16. After Stuart graduated high school, he attended Metalworks Institute of Sound and Technology (Missisauga) where he received a diploma in the Audio Engineering and Production program. Stuart is currently studying in the Music Mixing and Mastering program at Metalworks.

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I would say my personal project under the title STUWAV, because i did everything to create these songs, production, vocals, mixing and mastering.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I am currently working for an artist named jakeethedogg, a rap artist that I am helping advance his sound.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Nope

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: I honestly like a combination of both and I have ran tests through digital plugins compared to the gear and there is a difference however consumers likeley will not be able to tell

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I can promise my time and energy and passion put into your work and I will not stray from your initial vision.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I love how I am constantly learn every time I mix a new project, and I also just am always captivated by sound in general.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: They commonly ask for the price of my services however it is totally variable depending on how long it will take, being that I am new on Soundbetter I will start with low prices and sometimes free work.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: Anyone can do it? i disagree, I believe the skills I have compared to other engineers is hours of ear training and a strong understanding of basic dynamics and eq. A lot of this is muscle memory and being that I am young I have instilled certain frequency perceiving skills into ears that haven.t been blown out completly.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: Well I would ask what artists they're inspired by sonically, and what are your limits to where the creative vision can go.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: It is always a privilege for someone trying to make this a career to work on something new, so don't be shy in sending us work, we also value our reputation so we would never want to provide a lacklustre service.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Pultec Eq-1, SSL Channel Strip 4000 E, Oxide Tape machine, AMS RMX16, The God Particle

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I have been working in music digitally for 8 years and have recently finished my classical training at metalworks studios in Mississauga Ontario.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: I would say I am great at providing "big" sounding mixes and productions, with a good sense of ear perceptions, and provocative sonics.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I would love to work with some of the popular rap artists like Travis Scott and Playboi Carti because I believe I have a unique but powerful touch to anything I work on and I also can see a lot of flaws in there sound that could help them reach a new level of fidelity.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Don't overthink things

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I work in trap music most commonly however I am trained in rock, reggae, pop, and electronic music.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: I say my strongest skill are creating a strong drum sound that doesn't overpower the vocal.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I provide a professional and crisp sound, analog warmth, impactful drums, depth and width. I also pride myself in unique use of delay and reverb throws as well as modulation.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: Typically I am mixing in the daw all day, I am usually about to complete a mix and master within 1-2 days depending on the project.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: My current setup is a KLH subwoofer connecting to 2 HS5 stereo monitors in an acoustically treated space with an average RT60 of 2.5 seconds. I use a volt audio interface to connect my gear. I use Uad, ssl, Brainworks, cradle, STL, Arturia plugins and more in my process and I have worked with a lot of hardware so I know how to emulate such analog sounds with digital software.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Some key inspirations in my work would be artists ranging from Playboi Carti, to MGMT, to Death Grips, to Radiohead, to Travis Scott. Some professionals that I am inspired by is Noah Shebib, Mike dean, Chris Lord-Alge

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: My soundbetter page is primarily going to be focused in mixing and mastering for aritst's projects, and build my portfolio.
