Experienced electric and upright bass player here. I've played on literally thousands of professional recordings for artists, films, television and radio, including a couple Grammy nominated and gold records (Rich Mullins and a Ragamuffin Band, Legendary ShackShakers). I have a very professional home studio, and lots of cool basses!
Though my musical styles are all over the map, I suppose I'm most known in Americana, Roots Rock, Post Punk, Rockabilly and Blues based music.Lots of Contemporary Christian stuff in the past as well (Rich Mullins, Rick Elias, This Train, Amy Grant, Michael W Smith and many others). These days it's mainly in the American Roots music scene and it's various offshoots (Legendary ShackShakers, Eskimo Brothers, Mark Collie, Billy Bob Thornton, Derek Hoke, Adrian+Meredith among others). I played bass (and produced) for Legendary ShackShakers on the Grammy nominated soundtrack to the HBO series True Blood, major commercials for Geico, Ram Trucks and Volkswagen among others. I've recorded thousands of library music tunes that have found their way onto Pawn Stars, Wife Swap, Fox Sports, Biography Channel, Discovery Channel, American Pickers, etc. Played bass on a few episodes of Nashville and the popular Swedish TV show, Jills Veranda. My main recording upright bass is a 1948 Epiphone B-4, strung with gut strings and I use nice old ribbon mics for that classic sound. My electric basses are anywhere from vintage Hollowbodies to more aggressive modern rock and roll sounds and everything in between. I think you'll find I'm easy to get along within can deliver very professional results quickly. Need a little extra guitar, bgv's or even drums? That can be arranged!

Endorse Mark RobertsonI met Mark many years ago in LA when we were both recording albums. My husband Rick first hired him to record and tour, which we did for several decades before they became fellow Ragamuffins. He has great onstage presence and integrity that translates into everything he does, from exceptional playing, singing, songwriting, musical direction and engineering.
And most importantly he is my brother and I love him dearly!Solid player, always love when I’ve got shows on the calendar with Mark. We’ve been in the same band for a decade!
I have performed extensively and have been in several recording sessions with Mark over 10 years. He is really a asset to any project. He has the chops and understands the needs of any musical situation. He's a respectful fella and such a good hang, you'll want to hire him again and again.
I’ve played with Mark on stage and in the studio. I’ve released records that he has been a part of and have known him and his work for around 30 years or more. He is one of the finest musicians I have ever worked with and a great hang. Seriously, if you’re looking for a bass player with soul, precision, vocabulary, and ideas - he’s your cat!
I've had the pleasure to work, play and record with Mark on many occasions and have found him to be a fantastic and creative musician. He always has ideas and knows how to make a record. His bass playing is top notch and can craft a song into a singular work of art. I can highly recommend Mark Robertson.
I've known Mark for 20 years and he is my favorite bass player on the planet. I'll never forget the first time playing on stage with Mark in the band hand feeling the steady solid groove he puts down. In the studio he knows his stuff as well. He knows the gear and the sounds but he doesn't get bogged down in stuffy snobbery. He's massively creative and is a student of the artistic process. Lastly, Mark has mixed some projects for me and the results were as stellar as his bass playing. Get Mark, when it comes to playing, producing and mixing, he's the tops.
I’ve spent hundreds and hundreds of hours with Mark, on stage and in a van, touring the country. He’s a true professional…his versatility and adaptability shine in any situation, musically and socially. The only thing deeper than his reservoir of knowledge and experience is his good-hearted nature!
I’ve played drums alongside Mark for years. Not only does he have a perfect pocket and tone, he is also one of the funniest, kindest and most professional people I’ve ever worked with. Put yourself in Marks capable and talented hands and you’re going to have a killer product!
Mark is a top notch bass player and first class producer/ engineer. I worked with him several times over the years in and out of the studio.. Always professional and always prepared. Can’t find enough good things to say about him professionally and personally.
I love Mark's playing. We worked together on a Mark Collie record, and a bunch of gigs. He's a double threat, also a great upright player. Highly recommend.
An upright guy who plays an upright base. One of the best humans out there. Not to mention his Very distinct way of laying it down.
Mark is an astounding musician with amazing critical listening skills. Somehow, he always makes the right choice in an arrangement. I’ve personally worked with Mark for over 20 years. There are not many other bass players I would work with as well as him.
I’ve known Mark for quite some time now.
Incredible/versatile musician and a wonderful
person.Mark Robertson is very professional and an expert at bass and arranging music. I’ve worked with him in the studio and on many live shows. His expertise in playing and recording is much appreciated. Need bass? You can’t go wrong with Mark. - Jim “Reverend Horton” Heath.
Mark is a top notch all-around bassist and musician. We've worked together in the past both performing and recording and it's always been a positive experience. His knowledge and experience is broad and deep--plus he's a fun guy to hang with.
Mark is a true professional. Great playing, tone, and attention to detail. I’ve heard him lift up recordings and live performances with his talents for many years.
I've worked with Mark on both live and studio dates and sessions. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of musical genres and styles. This informs his approach, but never encumbers his playing with a purist's snobbery. He's also a fairly accomplished songwriter; which informs his approach to lift a song and make it shimmer. He plays the song. Anyone's music is made better with Mark's bass on it. Make it easy on yourself and hire him!
Mark has very big ears and broad tastes. It is one of my favorite things about working with him. He understanding of moods and feels and delivers that to any musical project that he is involved in. Consider yourself lucky to work with him.
