New Punk Rock Mixing Engineer for hire. Ive been mixing for a few years. Mostly my own projects. I am now looking for new projects and artists to work with, to add to my portfolio. My genre of choice is rock and punk, but I am into any and all styles. Love pop and country music as well. Msg me if you are interested. Will work for free at this time.
My name is Matt, I'm from Vancouver, BC, Canada. I've been playing in bands for 20+ years and mixing/engineering for about 10 years, mostly my own bands but a few others as well. I went to audio engineering school and learned under Garth Richardson, who mixed/produced Rage Against The Machine/Biffy Clyro/Rise Against etc. I work in ProTools and consider myself to be quite fluent in the program. I have a wide variety of tastes in music ranging from indie pop/rock to metal and country music. I own many different plugins and do most of my mixing in the box, at least for now until I can get enough clients so I can move into my own studio. I always reference my mixes on many different systems but also have a plugin that does that for me as well. I am currently looking to expand my portfolio and work with new artists and new songs. I am accepting any and all jobs and will work for free!!
I'd love to hear about your project. Click the 'Contact' button above to get in touch.

Interview with Matthew Gibson (The Gib)
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: no i havent worked with anyone yet
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: i havent had any questions as of yet
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: how long it takes to mix
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: a fresh perspective
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Less is more
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: i was the primary engineer/mixer and bass player for the rock/punk band i was in for 12 years called The I In Team and now Dead Churches. im proud of the songs we were working on and the ones we got to finish. i just wish we were able to finish all of the songs.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: no current mixing/engineering projects but i am playing bass in an indie pop/rock band, working on orchestral music for my portfolio and seeking songs/artist i can mix for free to add to my portfolio
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Analog over digital but i use both, mostly digital these days. I feel that nothing compares to recording a real instrument or using a real compressor or any kind of outboard gear. Plugins are great and the best they have ever been and are only getting better but still not as good as analog.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise that i will do my best to get your mixes sounding as clear, crisp and huge as i possibly can.
Q: What do you like most about your job?

Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: what you want, the sound you are looking for and reference mixes from artist you like and sounds you like.

A: guitar, piano, bass, laptop and and interface.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: i would love to eventually have my own studio where i record and mix bands or be able to do remote mixing so i can travel and tour with a band. Ive been playing music for 25+ years and ive been doing audio engineering in various degrees for 15 years.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: punk rock.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Jack Antonoff, because he thinks outside of the box and does alot of weird and creative things to get the sounds he does. He has worked with bigger artists and has helped write alot of hit songs. i feel i would learn a lot from him.
