Interview with Amoreena Ford
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I’ve done one short film and it was the first time I got to see a project from start to finish. It was also the first time my music was on a project that was later listed at a film festival. I also did cinematography. It was challenging and a bit overwhelming at time but I saw it through. I’m pretty proud about that
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Nothing just focusing on making tracks
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I’m new to the platform
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Analog because of it continuous nature
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: As long as they are committed to the project I will be too.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I enjoy that it’s purely creative and not limiting which means there will always be opportunities
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: How long have I been making music and I tell them how long but always seeking to challenge myself.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: I’m not sure if there is one.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: If there’s a need for constant communication as to what they want in a project. Is that helpful or does that just get in the way
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I want to make sure that I’m right for your project and not a wast of your time so feel free to ask as many questions as you see fit
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A compass, some kind of water receptor, flint striker, a knife and a tent
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I’ve been making music for fun for several years but only in the last four years I’ve begun focusing on transition to music production for whatever that might be
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Dramatic, tempo driven but not over the top
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Hans Zimmer or James Newton Howard because they don’t seem limited to any specific genre. Is that freeing or intimidating?
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: When watching a movie or tv show I always study how the music plays a role in it. Is it simply supportive background music or does it set the stage. I often put scenes of movies up on screen, mute it and try to do my own thing with it.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Cinematic or dramatic but I’m not limited to just them.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Melodies are my strongest.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: The intensity. Whether it be slow or fast. My focus is to support what’s happening in the story
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Depends on the filmmaker. If they have a certain idea I do my best to capture that vision but if not I work with whatever they give me.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: It’s a simple home studio. A PC set up and a keyboard and I use Cubase
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: John Williams is the biggest inspiration but Hans Zimmer opened my eyes to a whole different side of music production
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Scoring for short films but open to other opportunities
