George Moon on SoundBetter

I'm a producer, songwriter, arranger, pianist, singer and guitarist based in Mexico. I've been a pianist for 11 years and pop/soft pop/alternative pop producer for 4 years. I run my own artist project "George Moon" and am currently working on next releases.

As a pianist, acoustic guitarist and musician for over a decade, I've achieved a specific workflow and a way of sounding to my productions and arrangements, which I feel can resonate with other artists.

I specialize in Soft Pop/Alternative Pop productions, similar to Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, FINNEAS, Taylor Swift, Adele, Lewis Capaldi or Conan Gray. I tend to make my productions piano-driven (it can change depending on the song). Because of that, I pay special attention to dynamics in order to preserve the excitement on the song: being soft when it needs to be, energetic and lively when it has to.

Main Service - FULL INSTRUMENTAL PRODUCTION: I'll create a production from scratch based on vocal tracks you send me and a demo where I can hear the lyrics and the music (it can be a demo recorded with your phone playing and singing it). I'll deliver a complete instrumental production around, as well as special effects to the vocals if they help make the song shine brighter (vocoders, harmonies, lower and higher octaves, etc).

Another services:
- Singer (Lead and Background Vocals)
- Piano recording performed by me for your songs (through VST's)
- Acoustic guitar recording performed by me for your songs

My ultimate goal is that you are satisfied with the final result!

I'll be happy to hear from you:)

I reached out to George to write a song that I wish to use to propose to my girlfriend. George is a super talented musician who is well versed in piano, guitar, strings vocal, and arrangements. During our collaboration he has been very patient andattentive and listened to all my needs and feedback. In the end I am extremely satisfied with his top-quality work and I'm sure my girlfriend will be too.

Interview with George Moon

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I'm really proud of working with a mixing and mastering engineer with decades of experience to polish some songs I fully produced for an upcoming project!

  3. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  4. A: Customers tend to ask me ''Can you make a Taylor Swift / Justin Bieber / The Weeknd type song?''. The way I answer them is by asking for a reference of a specific song they have in mind, given that an artist can vary their genres and style depending on the album or topic of a song. Based on that, I am able to tell the customer if I can make a good job and fulfill their requirements.

  5. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  6. A: ''Music is not a real job''. Music is definitely a job, not easy, however it can be hugely rewarding for those who love what they do and put in the effort and help many people find a way to channel their emotions.

  7. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  8. A: How does your song make you feel? What would you like to convey with your song? Song references. What do you expect from me as your producer?

  9. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  10. A: I’m working on an EP for my personal project. It’s being really fun and at the same time I’m discovering a lot of new sounds and developing skills:)

  11. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  12. A: Aubrey Whitfield, she is a great producer and mix engineer.

  13. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  14. A: I love the analog sound on songs, however nowadays there's hardly anything that you can't emulate with digital software. There's always a subtle difference, but the price difference between an analog piece of gear and his software emulation can be huge. I would rather invest on a great mic, a great interface, a great pair of headphones/ monitors and get the best out of them. After that, if you still want to invest on analog gear, do it! It must be really fun:)

  15. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  16. A: What I can guarantee my clients is that I will always listen to their opinion and requirements. I will do my work based on what they tell me, but also, if there's some element that they think my production is missing, I always put extra attention on that. My ultimate goal is that they feel happy with the work I’ll deliver.

  17. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  18. A: I love it when I find that 'perfect' line, or sound, or arrangement that I feel that I'm able to convey emotions with, and realizing I wasn't even thinking about that exact element but it ended up being the right sound. The sensation of struggling a bit and then saying like ''i don't know why or how but this is exactly the vibe of this song'' is one of the things I love the most about music creation.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Don't choose base on prices, choose based on your goal. Choose somebody because you really think that person can make your song sound the way you like!

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: 1 - A keyboard/piano. 2 - An acoustic guitar. 3 - A macbook. 4 - Interface. 5 - Mic. Most importantly, that they come with their wires and that there's a spot where I can plug them in hehe. But I'd be happy just having a nylon string guitar:)

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I'm an artist, singer and producer and I'm aiming to make a living as a singer-songwriter (George Moon). However, I love music production and crafting of sounds, that's why I decided to produce my own music as well! I've been doing this for 4-5 years now.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: As a pianist, I tend to make my songs piano-driven, but it can be different depending on the intention of the track. Also, I tend to vary the sensation of the parts of a song, the first verse feels different from the second, the ending of a song can have a lot of energy, compared to the beginning or the middle of the song.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: FINNEAS! He is the producer I admire the most nowadays, tremendously creative and very similar to the style of music I make. Also, Olivia Rodrigo, we share music stlyes, but not only that, her way of crafting lyrics is something I really highlight about her work and the passion she displays in her singing!

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Yes! I find amazing how just trying to recreate a song can level up your production skills. Taking a song you like, extracting the vocals and trying to get to the same production around them! You will discover a lot of new ways to make a particular sound and will now a genre better.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I usually work on pop music, specifically Soft pop like Adele, Lewis Capaldi; or Alternative Pop like FINNEAS, Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, etc.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Arrangement! Also, arrangement is the part of the process that I love the most: creating sounds, putting sounds together, strings at the beginning or at the end, more energy on this part, silence here or there, vocal harmonies, layering, etc. Anything related to that is something that I feel is a strength for me.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: When a song comes to me, the first thing I do: analyzing the lyrics (if there's any). Lyrics have such a powerful influence on me. Depending on the lyrics, I can give the song one vibe or another. What I can bring to a song is enhancing its meaning; if it's conveying unrequited love, I give it extra unrequited love feelings, if it's conveying happiness, I give it more of that, adhering to the needs of the client, as well as the standards and basics of the genre.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: It depends on the task! For instrumental productions, I ask the client for some references to understand their goal, and some more questions to achieve a better suited production. I'm very attentive to what is needed and keep them updated about the progress of the work. If the client wants to add something or change anything, I can do it as soon as possible! If there's any songwriting that they need me to do, we can get to an agreement about the royalties.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: Vocal Booth (for acoustic guitars too), RODE NT1 5th Gen, Audient iD4, Casio Privia Px-s3100, MacBook Pro 36gb ram M3.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I feel truly inspired by the production and arrangement style from FINNEAS, Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, Conan Gray, Adele, Lewis Capaldi, James Arthur.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Productions - Soft Pop and Alternative Pop.
