Impeccable quality live drum tracks, recorded and performed by me. Specializing in Rock, Reggae, Pop, and Hip Hop. I also have 20 + years experience in mixing, and offer this service in conjunction with, or independent of, my drumming services.
I am not your typical YouTube/Instagram Drummer with insane chops and a million flabbergasted followers. I do not play drums like that. In fact, I can't, and I'm really not interested!
What I CAN do is make your song sound like a record. I approach playing drums from a musical standpoint, laying down groove and pocket. Exactly what is needed, no more and no less.
Sound selection is also an integral part of creating great recordings, and it is a serious passion of mine. I have the privilege of owning a large and beautiful collection of drum sets, snares, and cymbals, providing a wide array of unique sounds which span all genres.
Capturing those sounds is an art. With my professional mic closet, high-end pre amp selection, drum-tuned room and wide array of plugins, I deliver great feeling drum tracks that sound crisp and clear, which will absolutely take your recordings to the next level.

Interview with Lee John
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I recorded, mixed, mastered, and released 52 songs for my band SayReal in 2020, and that was pretty cool.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: My music and fitness coaching careers.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: No
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both, and it very much depends on genre. Analog instruments for the most part, digital processing cause it's WAY quicker and easier.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: To deliver impeccable quality and to work until they are satisfied.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: That it comes from my heart.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: How long is this going to take, and my answer is probably an hour.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That I "make beats". LOL
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What do you want it to sound like?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Find someone whom who vibe with on a personal level, and approach the work with trust.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My Bosphorus 22" ride, my Ludwig Copper Snare, my Mom's Fretless Jazz Special Bass (Japanese made), my Eastman Acoustic Guitar, and a practice pad.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started playing music as a young kid and never stopped. Being born into a musical family helped for sure... I've recorded and been on tour with some of the heaviest cats, including members of David Bowie's band and players who have worked with the Beatles.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Natural, intuitive, pocket.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Brendan O'Brien because he's recorded, produced, and mixed some of my favorite records of all time.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Get the sound right before it hits the microphone.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Reggae, Rock, Pop, and Hip Hop
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Drumming
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: As a drummer, I bring a sense of musicality and feel. As a mixer, I bring a cohesion and color which highlight the emotional core of the song.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I receive tracks, lay the drums down, and send back. Same applies for mixing. Both services include a round of revisions.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I'm running a Universal Audio Apollo X8, Mac Studio, with outboard Millennia Preamps. I have a VAST collection of modern and vintage drums & cymbals, as well as a comprehensive selection of basses, acoustic and electric guitars, and a very comprehensive plugin array. My studio is out in the middle of the desert, in a studio apartment attached to a main house. The drums happen to sound fantastic in this room, which is tight yet pleasantly punchy with just enough room to contain the drums.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Brendan O'Brien, Collie Buddz, Incubus, Josh Freese, The Police, Carter Beauford
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Session Drumming and Mixing
