Moody

Alt R&B Composer

Moody on SoundBetter

I produce exclusive melodic beats for independent artists. Over the past two decades I’ve worked with artists from LA to NYC to Houston. Professional

Some get into music production because they see an opportunity to make money. I got into music production because I was writing my own songs and needed beats. Through that creation process I learned I didn't like using the same beats as other people. This is how I still think about production today. Be original and don't use the same beats as others. This is the #1 reason why I do exclusives only and refuse to do beat leases. For me, it was never about money but rather authenticity.

My sound has evolved over the years but the consistent theme is they are melodic. This gives me a lot of versatility and it's what's allowed me to work with independent artists from all over the U.S., including LA, NYC, and Houston. I have composed music for Black Theatre and got placements internationally through sync music, including having my music on TV networks like Ovation and Bravo.

Interview with Moody

  1. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  2. A: I generally work on R&B type beats but with hip-hop or trap drums. This is why Alt R&B is a natural space for me.

  3. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  4. A: My strongest skill is being able to anticipate the artist because I'm also an artist. So I've learned how to create beats that are "simple" but highly effective, which then allows for the artist to shine.

  5. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  6. A: I've learned how to channel ME into the composition. When you hear my production, it's my sound. Not someone else's, so the biggest thing is you are getting a piece of my soul.

  7. Q: What's your typical work process?

  8. A: I am a melodic type producer, so 99% of the time I start experimenting with chord progressions until something resonates with me. Once I find a progression that I like, I then start working in drums and then I will iterate between the two, while adding in elements in sub and then instrumentation.

  9. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  10. A: I utilize Native Instruments Maschine, Komplete Kontrol, and many soft-synths. My audio interface is Universal Audio and I made use of features like Neve Summing when mixing in LUNA. When mixing, I have Event reference monitors along with a 10" KRK sub, but I also use VSX headphones (recent addition). I'm currently using the Universal Audio Sphere microphone.

  11. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  12. A: During my formative years, I was influenced a lot by producers like R. Kelly, Mr. Lee, and Dr. Dre. You'll hear elements of them in my production, with a lot of leaning toward R. Kelly.
