Interview with PineFreshGuy

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I played on a few different film soundtracks as a string section player at Abbey Road and Air Studios in London which I really enjoyed. However in general, I'm most proud of the content I'm currently creating on my new YouTube channel. I want to try and push the envelope of what is possible on the electric violin. I endeavour to explore new music styles and sounds. I decided against taking the route of a solo classical violinist in the end.

  3. Q: What's your typical work process?

  4. A: I like to initially figure out the practical side of music, so the bowings, fingerings, improvisation and phrasing, when I tackle a new piece. After this I practice it for around a week to get it under my fingers, and then record a few versions.

  5. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  6. A: I find that my Gewa Novita 3.0 Electric Violin & Valeton Gp-100 multi-effects pedal is normally enough to record different sounds into Ableton or SLOBS depending on the project. I can send through a clean acoustic sound, or something with a bit more kick introducing distortion, delay or modulation.

  7. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  8. A: I've been playing the violin since I was 7 years old. I went through the classical music system and went to a London Conservatoire where I also learned Jazz violin. This is when I started to think about playing in other styles of music. I then played professionally on stage and in the studio. I now solely focus on playing in different genres and improving my electric violin soundscape.
