Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I worked on a project with Shorty C El Real and the record is called "Algo Lunatico" and it is a song I produced, mixed and help structure. The featured artist is "Tony Dize" who was nominated at the 65th Annual GRAMMY Awards also, considered to be an amazing vocalist and writer among his peers with many hit records heard world wide.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Several client projects as well as my own production project.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. I get to have the best of both worlds.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My dedication to helping your idea come to life will always be priority.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I get to be apart of community who gets to hear a musical piece before the world does and being a contributor to that piece. Also, the creative process.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: How have I managed to be mix engineer for 10+ years! Answer: Being consistent, wanting to learn everyday, & not afraid to be heard.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The biggest misconception is that a mix engineer can fix a poorly recorded song,
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What is the overall outcome of the project! What music or artist inspire you! What do you look for in a song when it comes to mixing!
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Come with questions, share your idea exactly how you see/hear it in your head and allow me to be creative and help bring it to life.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Piano, SSL console, avalon 737, Neumann U87 , Dynaudio Monitors
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I was a small business owner, (Music Studio) and been doing this for over 10+ years
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Very creative and about feeling.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Dave Pensado & Alex Solano. These are music engineers that I view as artist because they add so much to the creative process to a song and the amount of knowledge they possess can be very helpful to anyone who is willing to learn.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Taking the time to organize session for before mixing will save you a lot of headaches, and time also, it will have a positive impact on your creative mixing process.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Urban Music (Latin & English)
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Creative Mixing, Dedication,
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring experience, creative ideas, feeling, and get the project to be sonically cohesive. When mixing, I believe the vocals are the most important instrument in a song and should be mixed as if it needs no mastering. In addition to experience I believe I have an unfair advantage as a mixer/producer because of my professional dj background and the amount of music I get to introduce to people everytime I play at a venue. I see their reaction, I see their modes, even get to hear other engineers mix/production in action.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Communicate with client & get as much info as possible. For example, if mixing is the job after communicating, receiving files and listening to ref I will start to organize session, edit session, tuning if needed or requested by client, balance mix and do some creative mixing if client allows or request. Once mix is complete, send out ref mix to client for approval if changes need to be made upon clients request that will be considered a second revision and so on. Three revisions is the max.
