Katina Kochovska (Catefiila)

RnB Hip Hop Vocal Singer

Katina Kochovska (Catefiila) on SoundBetter

An RnB Hip Hop singer/songwriter/rapper I can write lyrics for your music depending on the vibe you are looking for. I can write easy-going positive playful lyrics, I can also write heavy trap. If something doesn't come out while listening to your track, I will be completely honest as I'm here to have fun, connect, grow and do what I'm good at.

I've jumped on a couple of afro beats. I love writing lyrics for collaboration projects. I can either sing, rap and mix the two. My voice can sound similar to Rihanna's but also similar to Sinead O' Conner. I love singing and writing trip hop and other alternative genres. I'm into singing easy-going positive lyrics but also deep meaningful ones with a bit of melancholic sound. I love experimenting with many different genres - depends on the mood I am. When writing for a collaboration, I want the artists I work with to like how it goes so I always ask for feedback. I'm here for the change to get creative with someone else - music is my passion and I love how energy flows between artists when they work on something together.

Interview with Katina Kochovska (Catefiila)

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: My favourite is the one I uploaded - a track called Nobody. It just came out really cool. Other than that, my own personal indie songs that I write on a guitar are always the thing that makes me most proud because I'm completely honest when I write them and that is something to appreciate about myself - creating harmony between my inner self and the one I show to the world.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: On a few collaborations - vocals for a trap beat and vocals for one a bit more aggressive EDM/electronic rock

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: I love both. The analog sound is always better - sadly I only have digital gear yet.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: That it will sound good. The more information I have from the client, the easier it'll be for me to execute the job so it will be suitable to his liking. Information I need is more in terms of feelings.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: I like the most that it's like a game - there is no stress when I'm in my home studio and I am my own boss. I love making music and that's the thing that kapt me going for so many years. It makes me happy, it cleans my head, it keeps me so alive and the results are getting me high!

  11. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  12. A: Never had noone ever ( The Smiths)

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: Someone else should answer this, for me it's all clear 😃

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: Never had one.

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: My advice is one that will suit me - look for collaborators, not to hire someone. Let's create something together. I won't take any money if that is the case - just sharing credits. I'm not looking for money but for human contact, pleasure, satisfaction and because my heart wants to sing and spread good messages ✨

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: A guitar, a mic, an audio card, speakers and a mic cable

  21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  22. A: I play guitar from 15 years and started writing my own songs about the same time. I started producing music 11 years ago. Started singing more in the last few years and my singing styles are constantly evolving. I'm so inlove with creating and I'm fond of a few very different genres so I seek for collaborators with whom I can make music with.

  23. Q: How would you describe your style?

  24. A: I have quite different styles - one is deep, meaningful and melancholic, other is angry and telling it how it is, other is sweet and loving and I can make it sounds sexy. All of them are sensual and honest - I love being honest about everything in my songs. Playing with words, expressing different moods and feelings that people can relate with. After all, for me music should heal and be constructive - the good message is what I always look for. Even if it may be harsh, truth is always better than lies or illusionary worlds.

  25. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  26. A: Ne-Yo, Chris Brown, DaniLeigh, ASAP Rocky, Timberland - because I like their music

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: Be honest with your audience - so you can sing without lying.

  29. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  30. A: RnB, Afrobeat, reggaetone, Hip Hop, Rap

  31. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  32. A: The way I use my voice to create sweet and angry sound

  33. Q: What's your typical work process?

  34. A: First I listen to the song and usually immediately start writing after I've felt the vibe. Sometimes I write a few different versions and finally choose the best parts from each one and combine them. Then I improvise with the vocal melody and change the lyrics if needed. I make a demo recording, send it to my collaborator and after he approves, I make the final recording

  35. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  36. A: I have a vocal box, a decent mic, an audio card, good speakers and a laptop. For composing I use my synthesiser, AKAI MPD232, Fender Ovation half-acoustic and electric guitar Stratocaster, etc...

  37. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  38. A: Timberland, Kanye West, J Dilla, Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, Greentea Peng, Rihanna, UMI, ABRA, Jorja Smith, ASAP Rocky, Sinead O' Conner, Lianne la Havas, Alicia Keys, Gil Scott-Heron, Nina Simone, Eartha Kitt, DaniLeigh

  39. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  40. A: I've never worked for a client, I've always made collaborations. What I do is to write lyrics for my part of the song, compose the vocal line and record it in my home studio.
