Interview with Mixing | Mastering
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Lucy Eaton's "Your Saddest Great Achievement" was a breakout success for the artist and a labor of love. Puts me a different world every time I listen back to it and that's a big part of why I love what we accomplished together.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Finishing up an EP for artists Lucy Eaton and Marcus Lee.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital all the way. Maximum control, reproducibility, and speed means your track sounds exactly the way you want, when you want them, and we don't have hiccups because of a full moon 🙄 . Plus, double blind studies show people can't tell the difference!
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I care about your vision. I'm not here to float my own ego by prioritizing my tase over yours. I'll always bring my best, but we're here to bring your vision to life.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Making music is a beautiful mix of solving technical puzzles and the intangible art of evoking a spiritual experience in your listener. There isn't much more fulfilling work than that.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What is your vision? As the artist, it is your responsibility to (1) have one and (2) be able to communicate it. That's what separates the Billie Eilish'es of the world from every other amazing singer you can find on YouTube.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Vocals > Drums > Everything else. Scrutinize accordingly.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Indie Folk, Indie Pop, Folk Pop, Americana, Country, Singer-Songwriter, etc.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Noah Kahan, Bon Iver (Justin Vernon), Tame Impala (Kevin Parker), Lizzy McAlpine.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mastering, Mixing, and occasionally Producing.
