Interview with Arkins Audio Services
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I studied Music Production and have been mixing and mastering for myself and clients for a decade.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Loud but clean.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: blink-182
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Punk Rock and House/Techno music are my forté but I have mixed Hip Hop too.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My ears.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I can make your song sound professional and compete commercially with some of the biggest names in the music business today.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I typically start labeling each track and put them in order in how I like (drums on top, then bass, then rhythm guitar, then lead, then BG vocals, and lead vocal). I edit/comp if needed before I assign each track to a bus (Drum bus, bass bus, etc) and begin mixing each bus before I move to the individual tracks.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work on my MSI laptop with a 2nd monitor set up. My DAW of choice is REAPER, and while I lack any physical hardware in terms of compression and EQ - I more than make up for with the plugins I use that range from Waves to FabFilter to SoundToys. I use my Audio Technica headphones as well as my Fluid Audio C5 Speakers to ensure your mix will sound great on any type of speaker.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: blink-182 are my favourite band so they are probably my biggest inspiration. Other bands that inspire me are Jimmy Eat World, Deftones, Vulfpeck, and Brand New. When it comes to music production professionals, my biggest inspiration is Jerry Finn who worked on the iconic 3 album run from blink-182 between 1999 - 2003. Another big inspiration is Chris Lord-Alge as his mixing techniques are top notch.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I mostly work as a mixing and mastering engineer for clients.
