Asher and Steven on SoundBetter

We're a music producer duo with 500 million+ streams that is passionate about helping clients find their fans by producing compelling pop songs.

Hi there!
We're Steven and Asher. We produce hit soft pop songs for artists and songwriters. After working for years with major label artists like Alec Benjamin, Sara Kays, Cavetown, Powfu, Hayd, and Loote, we wanted to create an avenue to help and join forces with other signed and independent artists. Interview with Asher and Steven

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: We are especially proud of our songs that Ashley Kutcher released. She is such a talent; we really believe in her as an artist. We wrote and produced on her last album!

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: We are currently wrapping up work for Ashley Kutchers new album and a few K pop pitches!

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: We know quite a few other Soundbetter producers in Nashville and would happily recommend them!

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: For some parts of our job its not as important to be analog (post fx) but for others, it's important to have quality gear (mic chain).

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: If we take you on as a client, it means we hear something we believe in- and thus will do our very best to use our contacts, and of course our skillset to further your career.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: We love the people and relationships that music introduces us to!

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Clients usually ask us about our production process. As a production duo, we work on everything simultaneously, in the same room. It's a lot of fun!

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: The biggest misconception about what we do may be that we have a super 'chill' job- and while we love what we do so much, we've both had to work extremely hard for what we've accomplished.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: We usually ask questions about their sound, what they're looking for out of working with us, what else they need help with that may be adjacent to production/songwriting or their career.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: The advice we would give to a customer looking to potentially hire us is that consistent releases are extremely important! Creating a strong team around you is vital for success in this industry.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: We would take our apollo rack audio interface, sm7b mic, laptop, a guitar, and a Bible!!

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: We've been doing this for about 10 years each- both starting from a passion of music production and songwriting!

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Our style is a blend between pop and singer songwriter.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: We're looking to work with artists who are either professionals or aspiring to be professionals. We're looking for artists who know or have a good idea of what their sound is- and artists who are willing to trust professionals around them.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Invest in your tools! It's important to invest time and resources to make your job creating easier and seamless.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: We usually work on pop/soft pop.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Our strongest skill is our collaboration- besides the increase in speed, we're able to maximize creativity, utilize each others strengths, and leverage our combined network to benefit our clients.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: We aim to make every song we work on undeniably great- that's our standard.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: When we work remotely, usually we begin with the artist sending a demo- we then talk about the demo and go over pre-production. Afterwards, we'll produce most of the track. If the artist is happy with the track thus far, they'll track vocals locally to them, send their vocals over, and we would wrap up production and mix the vocals etc.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: It's a dedicated, fully treated studio here in Nashville TN.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: In terms of other producers- Max Martin, Busbee, Jon Bellion, Ryan Tedder

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: We usually produce music for artists & writers!
