Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

A: I would take a 1950 Gibson LG-2, an Upright Bass, a drum machine, a tube mic, and a reel to reel tascam tape recorder.

Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

A: I have been touring and writing music for the last 3 years. However, I have been learning instruments since I was four years old.

Q: Can you share one music production tip?

A: My most coveted production tip is record your acoustic guitars in stereo with a large diaphragm condenser and a ribbon. That way you can blend the warmth AND the detail in post.

Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

A: I usually work in the singer-songwriter genre, but lately i have been exploring bluegrass, folk, americana, and even christian styles.

Q: What's your strongest skill?

A: My strongest skill is my ability to learn new instruments at a very quick pace. This helps me meet every clients' needs in a timely manner.

Q: What do you bring to a song?

A: I bring A LOT of touring experience to the production world. I have gotten to know what audiences like to hear out of a live band. I know what excites and audiences, how short their attention spans are, what they will feel instead of hear, and so on. I also bring a professional's awareness most instruments and how each one reacts differently in the mix.

Q: What's your typical work process?

A: Start with acoustic guitar for a base, layer electrics and other instruments on top so as not to disturb the rhythmic quality of the acoustic.

Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

A: My studio is a constantly evolving reflection of my personality. It used to be my roommates room, then (after i kicked him out) it became a guest room which i used more for practice and playing than housing guests. Now it is a professionally acoustic treated 10ft by 10ft creative haven. I commonly use my Kemper to record electrics straight into my SSL console. no need to worry about room reflections. I record acoustic with my Royer R-10 through a WA-273-EQ for the warmest and smoothest acoustic sounds you'll hear.

Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

A: I am most inspired by my friends in Nashville, who continue the grind everyday and make the best music. Some more well-known producers and instrumentalists I look up to include Seth Taylor, Jed Hughes, and Joe Carrell.

Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

A: I am most commonly remotely recording guitars (electric and acoustic) but I LOVE all instruments equally.
