Interview with Ricardo Funk

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I've work with Cali Soul which is a LoFi Label. I'm proud of an album I did and it was Asian LoFi. I really love asian vibes and it was a nice piece of music.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Deep House Album for a client and a LoFi EP for another one. Also my own 80s Electro Funk project.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: No I don't. I do apologize

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital, cause I grew up in a semi digital world and I don't know much about analog equipments. I will be lying if I say it's better or worse cause I've tried it only few times.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: Punctuality on delivery time, always being comprehensive and being very honest.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I can do it from anywhere in the world and it's really great to have people smiling and dancing with something you created.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Will I own the copyrights of the tracks? My answer: of course I'm a ghost producer...

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: People thinks creating a track is something easy and that anybody can do it.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: How many tracks do you want? When do you want the tracks?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Just be very clear and specific, give the right instructions to avoid any misunderstanding and please be polite and kind.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: A watch, a bottle, a hat, a knife and Ipod

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I've been making music since 2015 but officially started working for others in 2020 due to the pandemic.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Chill, Relaxing and Lush.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Miguel Migs, because he is my main inspiration. I think his productions are very unique and original and he has a particular sound which is really hard to get as an artist.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Be very organised and color code all your projects

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Deep House, LoFi, Synthwave, Minimal Techno and Liquid Drum and Bass

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Adapting myself to the needs of a client.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: Uniqueness, a style that is almost dying, since EDM right now is pretty superficial and lacks of musicality in it.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I usually like to start by asking some references tracks. If I listen the track and I know I can get closer to the sound the client is asking then I will proceed and compose the tracks. Depending on how many tracks and how long the tracks are I can always promise a delivery time.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I have a Homemade Studio with Ableton as my DAW. Two Studio Monitos (PreSonus Eris E7 XT) MAudio Interface. It's a nice and comfortable studio place where sometimes I record voices from singers.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Miguel Migs, Sade, Samantha James, Aya, Lisa Shaw

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I produce Deep Chill House for different clients around the world as a Ghost Producer.
