Interview with Yell_low

  1. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  2. A: Remember to be precise, have a list of references ready.

  3. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  4. A: I have a Degree in Songwriting at BIMM University, London. After following a number independent live projects I am now back to studying, I am currently attending a Master Degree in Film Scoring.

  5. Q: How would you describe your style?

  6. A: electronic pop-rock, with a pinch of theatrical glam.

  7. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  8. A: Ezra Furman, She just demonstrate a creative spectrum that never fails to surprise. K.Flay, her arrangements just make the whole room spin.

  9. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  10. A: USE THE RIGHT EQUALIZER.

  11. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  12. A: I listen to creatives need and stick to the brief ( and I do it quickly ).

  13. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  14. A: On one side: the distortion, the dissonance, keeping sounds rough, raw with a theatrical and eccentric attitude, as in a mix between Riot! by Paramore and Twelve Nudes by Ezra Furman. On the other: a new depth, a conceptual awareness, the use of electronic drum kits and synthesisers, a post modern virtual orchestration, with visible influences from Decency by Balthazar.

  15. Q: What's your typical work process?

  16. A: Once the rhythm and the sound of the percussions are clear then everything else is manufactured to work within the rhythmic idea and is changed and analysed to fit within drum kit structure and sound. The choice of every single sound is a very important moment, before knowing what sort of melodic lines those plugins will be used for there is a need for a rough understanding of how the sounds will work together, what sort of harmonies and dissonance can be gained by every particular instrument. The vocals come at the very end of the process, the final coat of paint.

  17. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  18. A: Most of my work at the moment includes writing and producing music for short movies or advertisements within the Indie word.
