This is Mo Makki with MoMakkiMusic, I've been a freelance Mixing and Mastering engineer/Producer for over 25 years now. I have worked with big named artists and musicians from the likes of Kanye West, Teddy Gentry, Thrill Da Playa, to movie music credits such as, Who Made The Potato Salad, to working with MANY independent artists. All of them have one thing in common, and that's building great relationships to maintain a healthy creative space. I'm an accredited Full Sail Alumni, with a focus on Recording, Mixing, Mastering, and Music Production. If you want a great sound, SoundBetter has plenty of talented people, but if you need an engineer who studies his clients needs to achieve a tailored sound you've definitely found one.

I have experience with the listed genres, but can also mix many others so please don't regard that as a limitation. However, in the production aspect I mainly produce Hip-Hop, R&B, Trap, Drill, Soul, Afro, and lo-fi.

My process is easy, we discuss your goal, you send the files (no mater the DAW), and I work my magic. We figure out if any revisions are needed, if not, we are in business! I primarily use LUNA as my choice of DAW.

Tell me about your project and how I can help, through the 'Contact' button above.

I have been working with Mo for 25 years now and since day one he has been nothing short of amazing. His ability to pay attention to detail, his ability to break through the boundaries that artists place on themselves to show them all the different ways they can use their talents to fine tuning the perfect mix for your project. I will always recommend and vouch for Mo as an engineer/producer/artist to work with if you need to bring your art to life…he’s the man!

It's one thing to have the educational credentials to be an audio engineer but it's another to take all of what you learned and apply it to a mix. MoMakki does this effortlessly and has great customer service skills. He has mixed multiple albums for me ( See Oplex - Relationship Chronicles or Oplex - The Zoron EP) and rarely did I need to adjust anything. In the times adjustments were needed, revisions were made promptly and correctly. I am a DJ and radio personality that has a slew of artists in my network. I refer them to him because he's the best engineer I know.

Interview with MoMakkiMusic

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: This movie Called "Who Made The Potato Salad" It's a movie starting Jaleel White (Steve Urkel). A song I engineered and performed on was placed during a major scene in the movie. When the music director told me it made the movie, I figured it was going to play at the end. Feels good to see my name on the credits of this one, and I got a copy of the movie with the timecode still in it which is pretty cool.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Currently, I'm working on 3 Hip-Hop albums, 2 EP's one for a Drill Duo, and the other for an old school Hip-Hop head. One R&B single, and production for 5 different artists....different genres.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Yes....ME!!!

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: BOTH!!! They both bring goodness to the table, you can't go wrong either or, but when you have both you truly have all the tools needed for any situation.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I promise to get you the sound that you aspire to, through good communication, and great work.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I always fall back in love with music! Also, my clients are some of the coolest people you will ever come across. Each one unique and talented, and that gives me hope that good music will never die.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: They typically always ask me if I can do some crazy effect to the vocal or music on certain parts of the song. The answer is always YES. haven't had a complaint yet.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: It's easy, and anyone can watch a YouTube video and do it.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: Who is your favorite artist, what is your favorite album, and what is your favorite song? I also like to know who the first started listening to as a kid.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: The more specific you are the better, make sure none of your audio files are clipping, and get ready to have a reliable, client focused engineer for life!

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Neuman M48, LCD-X headphones, 14" MacBook Pro M3 Max, solar generator, L22 Sphere microphone

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: it's always been music, 25yrs.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Production wise, aggressive or chill. No in-between with me! Mixing/Mastering, clean, but big.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Famous: Nas, I feel like he's the most consistent out of many artists out. Indi, any young artist really because they have that hunger that established artists don't.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Trust your initial feeling, how the song made you feel when you first started producing it. If the end result doesn't make you feel better than that...it's time to go back to the drawing board.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Lately it's been a lot of Hip-Hop, but I've also mixed/mastered country music, pop, R&B, Rock, and many other styles. As for as production, I produce mainly Hip-Hop, Trap, Drill, Dance, Pop, R&B, movie score, and Soul.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Working to get the exact mix/master the client requests. This requires communication and a great ear, not just to listen and mix the music, but to also listen to the client.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: An understanding of what the client is reaching for, without that understanding an engineer can do WAY too much or not enough. It is the engineers job to make the artist shine, not the engineers job to "show off" and try to remake the song all together. I bring understanding and focus.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I first want to know what the artists style consists of, who inspires them, what sound signature impresses them the most. This helps me get a feel of what tools to use to get the desired sound. Once this is worked out the process is simple. The client will send me the digital files, I edit, mix, send them the first mix to find out if this is the right direction. If not, I find out the details to get on that right direction, and move forward. Once everything is sounds amazing, I'll master the work or the client will take the mix to get mastered.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: My studio set up is a hybrid set up, using analog mic pre's, but everything else is digital. I was an Avid Pro Tools user for 15 years until LUNA came out, which is now my DAW of choice. For monitoring (speakers) I run a pair of Fluid audio Image 2's. Mixing controllers include Solid Sate Logics UF8 (2), UF1, UC1. Interfaces, Apollo x8, UAD satellite-2 Octo, Apollo twin. Computer Mac Studio M1 Max, and more plug-ins than any one man should have.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I get inspired by good music. No matter the genre, famous or independent, if it's good I'm inspired. I've been immersed in music since a young child, and when it's good I'm ready to listen or make more.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I am a Mixing and Mastering engineer. Yes, I give my clients music ready for any medium: radio, performance, TV, Instrumental, but my main job is to build a relationship with my clients to better understand how to Taylor the sound just for them.
