RYL (Instagram: rylonthebeat) is a Hip-hop/R&B artist, music producer, and singer-songwriter from Kaohsiung, Taiwan, and Southern California. He began his musical journey in 2019 as a beatmaker while he was still in high school under the stage name "Vøntrí." As he began writing and toplining over his own beats, he decided to rebrand himself and adopted the new stage name “RYL,” pronounced as "real." Over the past three years, he has experimented with various musical genres such as hip-hop, R&B, neo-soul, pop, and even electronic dance music.
Having a solid foundation in producing and beat making, most of his releases are fully produced and mixed by himself. From Vøntrí to RYL, he has released more than 20 singles and an EP. One of his 2022 releases, "Shawty," was featured on Spotify's "Mandarin Indie Picks" and "Mandarin Hip Hop Stars" editorial playlists, accumulating over 95k streams on Spotify alone. In addition to his own releases, he has also produced several tracks for prominent artists in Taiwan, such as Peatle, Wolfpacc, and Ak Benjamin. His most recent release, “MEGAN,” with Ak Benjamin, was also included in multiple Spotify editorial playlists.

Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Beats: Artists typically send me a song or type beat reference and I will make a customized beat based on that. Producing: Artists typically send me their demo and we will discuss the direction of production. After we set a direction, I will produce the song around the artist's vocals. Then, we can go back and forth to change arrangements and refine the details of the song. I will also provide my thoughts and feedback on how to make the song more complete. Mixing: Artists typically send me their stems or beat+vocals, as well as a reference track. I can mix both stem projects and 2-track (beat+vocals) projects.
