Interview with Jaime Uriel

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: One of the projects I’m most proud of is the last song I worked on with my band, titled “Violator.” It was a childhood dream of mine to be in a band and produce something of our own. I handled everything—from recording engineering to performing, mixing, and mastering. It was exhausting but incredibly fulfilling. Being involved in every step of the process made it very special to me.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I’m focused on growing my career. I haven’t had many projects yet, so I’m using this platform to reach more clients around the world.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Not yet. I’m new here.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: My current setup is entirely digital, but I’m working toward adding analog gear soon. Still, I can deliver a polished and warm sound combining both approaches.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: To always respect their creative decisions.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Listening to different genres and helping artists express what they want through sound.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: They always ask how to send the files. I usually tell them to use WeTransfer.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: Pricing. Sometimes I’m afraid to charge what it’s worth—I worry it might be too much. But in the end, the client decides if it was worth it.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: Usually three or four—style references, track count, and what they expect from the final result.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Don’t be afraid to clearly state your needs. I adapt to any workflow, but I also request a few things to ensure the best possible result. Communication is everything.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: My Mac (I take it everywhere), my Audeze headphones, a small interface, a condenser mic, and my guitar.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I got my degree 5 years ago. I spent the first 2 years saving to build my studio, so I’ve been mixing professionally for 3 years. Due to my location, I haven’t had major clients yet, and many artists keep their songs private, so I don’t have many public credits. That’s why I’m looking to connect and work globally now.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Relaxed but disciplined. I like to clear my mind before a session—it helps me focus. I respect the client’s vision while bringing my own clarity to the project.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Sabrina Carpenter. I haven’t worked with many female vocals yet, and I think her voice has a unique brightness that I’d love to explore in a mix.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Know when to stop. Taking breaks is essential to avoid stress and keep your ears fresh.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Mostly metal, rock, and rap—but I’m always open to working in any genre.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Mixing. I’ve also taken mastering courses with industry mentors, but mixing is where I shine.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring warmth, brightness, and a genuine intention to reflect the artist’s message. I approach each track with love and respect, making sure every detail supports the emotion behind the song.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: Organization is key. I use my personal template where everything’s set up. I process the stems through my mixer, reprint them into Logic, and begin by cleaning every track to catch anything unwanted. Then I mix everything together. I love using parallel processing and blending textures.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I built my own home studio. I use the audio interface from my Behringer X32 mixer, work with Logic Pro, and monitor with JBL MKII speakers. I’ve been gradually investing in essential plugins while still using the onboard processors of my mixer. I’ve acoustically treated the room and plan to invest in analog gear soon. Still, I’m fully capable of delivering professional mixes. I continue learning through courses and books to always stay sharp.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Honestly, all of them. I believe every artist has something meaningful to say, and every song moves me in some way. Music is my life, and every musician inspires me—that energy helps me achieve better results.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I usually handle vocal and instrumental recording, editing and mixing. Many clients reach out to me to help balance their vocals with an instrumental and make the whole track sound professional and cohesive.
