Interview with Mushfiq Nur Niladree
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: One project I’m especially proud of is my instrumental track “A Glimpse in Time”, which I wrote, recorded, mixed, and mastered myself. It blends progressive metal with melodic elements and technical guitar work. My role included full multi-track mixing, mastering, and sound design, ensuring every instrument was clear, balanced, and emotionally engaging. I’m proud because it showcases my musical creativity and technical expertise, and it was well-received by fellow musicians and listeners.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am working on a track called "Aushokiyota" by STRIVE, which will be released soon.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I do not know anyone on SoundBetter.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I primarily work in digital, because it offers precision, flexibility, and efficiency in mixing and mastering. Digital tools allow for detailed editing, automation, and easy recall of sessions, which is essential for streaming-ready tracks. That said, I appreciate analog warmth and sometimes incorporate analog-style plugins or hardware to add character and depth when needed.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise to clients is to deliver polished, streaming-ready tracks that capture the emotion and energy of their music. I commit to clear communication, attention to detail, and revisions to ensure every mix and master meets professional standards and exceeds expectations.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: What I love most about my job is bringing music to life. I enjoy transforming raw tracks into polished, powerful, and emotionally engaging songs. I also love collaborating with artists, combining technical skills with musical creativity to make each track sound its best and connect with listeners.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Common questions I get from clients and my answers: Can you make my track sound better than the demo? Yes! I enhance clarity, punch, and balance while keeping the song’s original vibe. Do you offer vocal tuning or pitch correction? Absolutely. I provide subtle or detailed tuning to keep vocals natural and polished. What file formats do you deliver? WAV and MP3, ready for streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, or any platform. How many revisions do you offer? Depending on the package, 2–5 revisions to ensure your complete satisfaction. How long does it take to finish a track? Delivery ranges from 3–7 days depending on the package and track complexity. Can you work on any genre? Yes! I specialize in Rock, Hard Rock, Metal, Ballads, Acoustic, and Pop, but I adapt to most styles.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: A common misconception is that mixing and mastering is just “turning knobs” or making a track louder. In reality, it’s a creative and technical process that involves balancing every element, enhancing clarity, shaping tone, and ensuring the song translates well on all playback systems. It requires critical listening, musical understanding, and precision to bring a track to professional, streaming-ready quality.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: When working with a new client, I typically ask: Genre and style – to tailor the mix and mastering to the song’s vibe. Reference tracks – examples of the sound they’re aiming for. Number of stems/tracks – to plan the workflow. Delivery format – WAV, MP3, or both. Specific requests – such as vocal tuning, FX preferences, or streaming optimization. Deadline – to ensure timely delivery. This helps me understand their vision and deliver a polished, professional final track.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: When hiring a mixing/mastering engineer, look for someone who understands both the technical and musical aspects of your track. Check their portfolio, listen to previous work, and ensure they offer streaming-ready mixes, revisions, and clear communication. A good engineer will not only polish your sound but also enhance the emotion and energy of your music.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My guitar, amp, laptop, headphones, sound card!
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I’m a mechatronic engineer and professional musician with 11 released tracks. Over 7 years, I’ve focused on mixing and mastering, combining technical precision with musicality to deliver polished, streaming-ready tracks across Rock, Metal, Ballads, Acoustic, and Pop.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is versatile, precise, and musical. I focus on creating punchy, clear, and balanced mixes that highlight the energy and emotion of each song. Whether it’s Rock, Metal, Ballads, or Pop, I combine technical precision with creativity to make tracks polished, streaming-ready, and competitive across all platforms.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with artists like Dream Theater, Metallica, or Iron Maiden because of their complex arrangements, powerful energy, and attention to detail. Collaborating with artists of this caliber would allow me to bring my expertise in mixing, mastering, and musicality to enhance their sound while learning from their creative vision.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Tip: Always start with a clean mix. Organize your tracks, remove unwanted noise, and balance levels early. This makes it easier to apply EQ, compression, and effects creatively, resulting in a polished, professional, and emotionally impactful final mix.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on Rock, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Ballads, Acoustic, and Pop, but I’m versatile and open to other genres as well. My experience as a musician and engineer allows me to adapt my mixing and mastering techniques to fit the style, energy, and emotion of each song while delivering a polished, streaming-ready final product.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is mixing and mastering multi-track recordings with precision, musicality, and a keen ear for detail.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring clarity, punch, and professional polish to every song. This includes tight, well-balanced mixes, powerful drums, clear vocals, rich guitars, precise stereo imaging, and streaming-ready loudness. Beyond technical skills, I bring musicality and creativity, ensuring the track captures its emotion and energy while sounding competitive on all platforms.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My typical work process begins with listening carefully to the raw tracks to understand the vibe and energy of the song. I then clean, edit, and organize each stem, adjusting timing and pitch as needed. Next, I focus on mixing—balancing levels, EQ, compression, stereo imaging, and adding effects to enhance the track. Once the mix is polished, I move to mastering, optimizing loudness (LUFS-compliant), clarity, and tonal balance for streaming platforms. Finally, I deliver the track in WAV & MP3 formats and provide revisions to ensure the client is completely satisfied.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work from a fully equipped professional studio designed for mixing and mastering. My setup includes a DAW (Reaper), Melodyne Studio for vocal tuning, quality audio interfaces, studio monitors, headphones, MIDI keyboard, and professional plugins for EQ, compression, reverb, and effects. I also have tools for precise editing, stereo imaging, and loudness optimization, ensuring every track is polished and streaming-ready.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I draw inspiration from a mix of legendary and contemporary musicians and producers. Artists like Metallica, Dream Theater, and Iron Maiden inspire my approach to rock and metal, while producers such as Rick Rubin, Andy Wallace, and Sylvia Massy influence my mixing and mastering techniques. I’m inspired by those who combine technical precision with creativity, delivering music that’s both powerful and emotionally engaging.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The most common work I do is mixing and mastering multi-track recordings. I balance all elements of a song—vocals, drums, guitars, bass, and other instruments—using EQ, compression, stereo imaging, and effects to create a polished, professional sound. I also provide vocal tuning, track editing, and loudness optimization so the final mix is ready for streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and other platforms.
