Bassist for Dove Award and NAACP Image award winning artists Featured on tune with over 11million views Eclectic taste with focus in gospel, reggae, r&b, funk
I'm Daven, a bassist, keyboardist, and producer based in Florida (USA). My roots are in Jamaican culture which gave me exposure to reggae, dancehall, ska, calypso, and other Caribbean styles. I also have a deep love for American styles which have been my bread and butter for the past 18 years - Gospel, Rhythm and Blues, Funk, Contemporary Jazz, etc... I have featured on dozens of live and studio sessions for artists including LaRue Howard, Jazmin Ghent, Javis Mays, Donyea Goodman, and others. I have also been a sideman for countless acts which run the gamut of styles.
When you hire me you get deep grooves, great tone, attention to detail, direct and concise communication. Let's get your project feeling GOOD!

Interview with Daven-Roy Llewellyn
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Communicate clearly.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A Korg Kronos, a Fender Jazz, a pair of Beyerdynamic headphones, a Mac, and an Audient interface.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been playing bass for 18 years, and have been recording over 10 years.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Eclectic/Authentic
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I'd like to work with Stevie Wonder or Earth Wind and Fire. They are quite literally the best to have ever done it!
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Embody the requested style by immersing yourself in quality examples of the style. Ideas will flow naturally!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Gospel, R&B, Funk and reggae
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Communication
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring groove and dynamism to songs I am part of. My goal is to bring the vision of the producer to life!
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Typically, I listen to the song a number of times to gather style and form, write out a chart, then track multiple takes.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio setup includes Audient preamps, which are notoriously clean and allow the natural character of my basses to shine. I also have an 1176 style compressor on the desk to smooth out peaks and add a little thickness. My basses all possess unique characteristics. The '96 jazz is heralded as one of the best jazz basses to come off the Fender production like - classic active jazz tone. My 76 Precision is a true classic and has all the character of the period. Finally, the Roscoe has a modern tone that can cover any bases the other two can't.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: The bassists who inspire me are Marcus Miller, Aston Barrett, Sharay Reed, Chuck Rainey, and Michael League.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I generally take scratch bass ideas and develop them into bass lines that add punch and groove to the record. I am sometimes asked to play exactly what was in the dummy, and I do that well too.
