Interview with VICTOR SAN PEDRO WANDELMER

  1. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  2. A: Composition is my strongest skill—I love building music from the emotional core outward, shaping the melody, harmony and rhythm to support the story. But I’ve also spent months refining my mixing approach, especially in hybrid environments. I don’t just balance sounds—I give each song depth, color and emotional weight through analog summing and detailed processing. The two go hand in hand: I compose with a mixer’s ear, and I mix with a composer’s heart.

  3. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  4. A: Every song I’ve released as BirdBear has been a passionate project. I write, produce, mix and master my own music, and each track is a journey into something deeply personal—whether it's exploring identity, emotional struggle or inner transformation. I'm especially proud of The Mirror, where I gave voice to anorexia as a psychological protagonist, and The Bargain, which imagines a deal to escape fear and shame. These songs pushed me to find my own sound, both technically and emotionally, and they shaped who I am as an artist and producer.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: Both—absolutely. I believe the magic happens when you combine the best of both worlds. I use analog summing (Burl B32) to add depth, cohesion and a natural feel, and I rely on high-end digital tools like UAD and Acustica Audio for precision and flexibility. Analog gives character and soul, digital gives control and recall. Together, they let me shape a sound that’s both emotional and refined.

  7. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  8. A: I’ve been producing and mixing my own music for nearly two years, after a long personal journey exploring sound, emotion and storytelling. I come from a background in technology and music as a passion, and decided to fully embrace it with a clear artistic identity: BirdBear. Since then, I’ve been creating original tracks, developing a hybrid studio workflow, and shaping a sound that blends analog warmth with emotional clarity.

  9. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  10. A: I’d love to work with Steven Wilson for his emotional depth and his meticulous approach to sound—he blends storytelling and production at an incredible level. I'd also have loved to work with Santana in the early '70s, during the Caravanserai era, when his music became more spiritual, atmospheric and exploratory. Both artists embody what I value most: emotion, sonic identity and the courage to push boundaries.

  11. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  12. A: I usually work on music that lives between electronic, cinematic, and alternative pop. I love emotionally driven tracks with strong atmosphere—whether it's a spacious electronic production, an intimate indie song, or something experimental. I often collaborate with artists who want to develop a unique sonic identity, blending organic textures with modern production techniques.

  13. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  14. A: My studio is a hybrid environment focused on emotional clarity and sonic depth. I mix through a Burl B32 analog summing mixer and work with a Universal Audio Apollo interface, combining UAD DSP and Acustica Audio plugins for rich analog-style processing. For composition and production, I mainly use Cubase, which gives me the flexibility and control I need to shape complex arrangements. I also use LUNA and Reaper for hybrid mixing and mastering workflows. Every step is designed to bring out the soul of the song.

  15. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  16. A: I help artists shape their sound from the ground up. Most of my clients come with a rough idea, a vocal or a reference track, and I turn it into a full production—writing, arranging, designing the sound, mixing and even mastering. I specialize in emotional, hybrid productions that blend analog warmth (Burl B32 summing) with modern clarity using UAD and Acustica Audio tools. Whether it’s electronic, indie pop or cinematic, I focus on giving each track a unique identity.
