Hi ! I'm Waldo and I'm a professional musician based in Paris (France) with a diploma from the American School of Modern Music. I've been playing bass for over a decade and played hundreds of shows in France, Spain, England and Switzerland. I'm used to work with a variety of artists and musicians from all over the world and I have had the pleasure of recording 75+ songs during 20 recording sessions in professional studios. I'm comfortable with basically any music genre be it Pop, Folk, Funk, Rock, Soul, Jazz, Metal, Punk, Blues...

I'd be very happy to write or record a bassline for you or your project. My philosophy in music is about balance. I don't have ego problems and always do my best so that my basslines support the song in the best way possible. Bass solo requests are possible as well.

I play 5 string bass, 4 string, fretless & electro-acoustic bass. I'm fluent in French, English & Spanish.

Interview with Waldo Losada

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I recently worked on my Folk/Jazz project Etxegiña that deals with a lot of odd time signatures. My role was to be the main composer, bass player and coordinator.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I'm currently working on acoustic Folk/Jazz tunes for my project Etxegiña. I'm also working on an Extreme Metal EP as well as preparing for a Pop Album recording.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Yes? I'm the bass player for Peruvian Pop Singer Bea Mar.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both are interesting in different contexts.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I'll listen to your needs and deliver a job well-done.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Being a part of something. Be it a new project or a long time collaboration. Seeing things take form and become art. It's an amazing feeling when something is published and you feel proud of everyone's work.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: - "My favorite genre doesn't appear as your specialty in your profile, do you feel confident about working for me ?" - "What I don't excell at, I'll become good at for your project".

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: Playing "less" is not "easier"

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: 1. Are drums already done ? 2. How much space do you want the bass to take ? 3. How technical they want things to be ? 4. Do you want me to stay in the low end ?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: To have a few references of what they like. They might not have an idea of what they "really" want for their project. But they might know songs that inspire them !

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: I only need 3 ! My acoustic Guild Bass, a tuner and sheet music paper !

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I've been playing music since I was 3 years old and bass for over a decade. I've got experience in

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: I would describe my style as melodic. What I love to do is write bassline that you could sing.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I would have loved playing with The Clash because they embody the word "fusion" in a popular sense. The way they excelled at including a variety of music genres into their work is inspiring. They stayed "punk" but embraced music in a broader sense.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Let things rest for a day. There's so much damage you can do to a song by not taking a bit of distance with your work.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I work on mostly every genre. I'm comfortable with Pop, Funk, Indie, Rock, Jazz, Folk, World, Metal, Punk, Soul...

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Being attentive to what the project needs. Adapting to what the situation requires of me.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: Groove, support & melody.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I take some time to listen to the song, check out the chords and apply different styles depending on what the client wants for me: something "simple" that supports the band well, something more "melodic" and free.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I have 4 basses at home and can record through my amp or through my UA Volt476. My basses are : - 5 string Warwick Corvette double-buck - 4 string Bacchus jazz bass - 4 string Fender fretless jazz bass - 4 string Guild Electro-Acoustic bass

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: So many musicians inspire me. I'd say I love James Jamerson's sens of rhythm and melody, modern Jazz players as Yussef Dayes, the sense of groove of Anderson .Paak. And I'm a great admirer of french fusion project Tribeqa.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I usually do two kinds of jobs for my clients. One can be playing and recording a bassline that has already been written by the artist hiring me or record something in the spirit of that idea. The other is creating an original bassline for a song and recording it. Once the files are sent I allow 2 revisions so that you are happy with my performance.
