I'm Canadian Toronto-based Producer, Songwriter, Singer and Multi-instrumentalist.
I write for my own project (Mute Choir) and been lucky enough to produce and write for some artists such as Alessia Cara, Fefe Dobson, Tyler Shaw, Sofia Camara, Ryland James, Jagwar Twin, BAD CHILD, Neon Trees, Houses, Aunty Social and more.

I have a strong emphasis on creating productions that are reflections of the artist's character and vision.
Whether you need help with songwriting, need someone to be your entire one-man band creating a full arrangement or you just need someone to help tightening things up and getting the tones sounding cool, I'm confident I can help you get it there.
As someone that has always been a lover of many genres, I take pride in my versatility as a musician writer and producer to be able to work on almost any genre.

Interview with Sam Arion

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Recently produced and co-wrote the new Fefe Dobson album "Emotion Sickness". It was an inspiring and emotional process and I feel appreciative to have worked with her. Also really proud of my new solo record I put our recently, Dived into some really fun experimental musical territory and have always wanted to make a concept album, so doing that was a really creatively fulfilling and different process.

  3. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  4. A: Whats ur vision for your project?

  5. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  6. A: I started playing music at 13, Guitar, then bass and keys, got a recording program and really into putting different elements together. Play guitar in some bands, got signed to a major at one point, toured a bunch, learned a lot. Made 2 solo records I'm really proud of. Slowly got better at writing songs and producing music along the way and have been having alot of fun making records with people ever since!

  7. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  8. A: A really cool RnB record that sounds like if Dua Lipa did a Ray Charles type song with trumpet arrangements and swing drums that you would do the charleston dance to.

  9. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  10. A: *Yawn*

  11. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  12. A: Reliability, Confidence, Creativity, and Intention

  13. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  14. A: Making them bangaazz

  15. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  16. A: Assuming I magically have electricity... Laptop, Hofner Bass, Les Paul, U87, Acoustic

  17. Q: How would you describe your style?

  18. A: It's provocative, It gets the people going

  19. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  20. A: It's so all over the place... I'm constantly working on different styles of music.

  21. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  22. A: Makin these bangers allllll day

  23. Q: What's your typical work process?

  24. A: It's very different all the time because I really try to work in a way that is reflective of the artists process if I can, as opposed to forcing my process or style too much onto it. When it comes to co-writing, sometimes that means starting on acoustic guitars and focusing on the story and the words making sense/flowing. For other artists it might be finding cool sounds and beats and letting them vibe out on the mic for a bit and making sense of it all later. Some people just want you to send a full instrumental. I try my best to adapt to different processes and ways people get creative.

  25. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  26. A: I work in a studio with an acoustically treated control room setup. ATC Monitors, Some nice mics (U87, 441, SKM 185). Rack gear: Distressor, 1176, BAE Pre's, Tube Tech EQ. High end Takamine and Gibson Acoustics. Gibson Les Paul Studio, Fender Strat, Fender Jazzmaster. Fender P-Bass, Hofner Violin Bass, Jazz Bass.12 string acoustic, Mandolin and Ukulele. I can get access to an upright acoustic piano for an added day rate.

  27. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  28. A: James Blake has been super inspiring, that man's always pushing the envelope making beautiful unique weird stuff.

  29. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  30. A: Often times, my clients are solo artists where I co-write the song with them and produce/perform most or the entire instrumental. But I also will work with artists and bands that have a lot already written or laid out and just need my help tweaking and improving.
