Drew Riekman is an audio and mixing engineer based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Guided by a desire to create a welcoming and approachable studio experience, Drew has developed an intentional approach to recording and mixing over the course of his near two decades in the industry.
Maintaining an environment that ensures artists feel comfortable, and creating the space to learn and grow with each other while making art is paramount, no matter where the recording takes place.
Initially working under the guidance of head engineers at Rain City Recorders in Vancouver, Drew now spends his days recording at No Fun Club in Winnipeg or D.C.Riekman Recording. His credits for arrangement, production, recording, or mixing include Tunic, Bummer, Blessed, Holy Fuck, Kristin Witko and more from a wide swath of genres. He’s also had the fortune of working on projects with John Congleton, Jace Lasek, John McEntire, Seth Manchester, and more. Experiences from these sessions have informed Drew’s aim to capture each artist’s desires through a process where they feel included in every step and excited about the end result.
Being an artist in the studio can be incredibly fulfilling, or incredibly daunting; though it’s usually both of those things at different moments through the process of creation. I’ve been involved with the creation of musical works since 2007 when my earliest bands began recording in a small home project studio. Through the years, I’ve learned that it’s paramount to navigate those emotions and create an environment where people feel in control of their aspirations and able to ask questions and learn about the process.
