Caleb J. Both is an American composer, orchestrator, and pianist specializing in film music and concert works. His music is characterized by an emphasis on memorable melodic writing, an ode to the orchestral writing of early Hollywood, and a blend of contemporary electronic techniques.

His music has won awards in both the film and concert stages, including "Wedding Cake" (winner of "Best Narrative Short" at the 2023 Cannes International Cinema Festival), "Fool's Gold" (1st place at the 2021 CWVFF 48-hr Competition), "The Chipmunks and the Alley Cat" (Winner of the 2020 Georgia State University Wind Band Composition Competition), and "Desolation" (selected for reading in the University of Missouri-Kansas City's 2018 summer composition camp with ensemble-in-residence newEar Contemporary Chamber Ensemble).

Caleb is a current M.M. student studying Screen Scoring at New York University, and holds a B.Mus. in Music Composition and a minor in Business Law from GSU. He currently studies privately with Emmy-nominated film composer Marcelo Zarvos (The Equalizer 3, Wonder, Ray Donovan), and has additionally studied under five-time Emmy winning composer Jamie Lawrence, Emmy-nominated composer Irwin Fisch, and jazz composer, arranger, and pianist Rich Shemaria.

  1. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  2. A: Helping filmmakers tell their stories!

  3. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  4. A: A lot of people tend to think "orchestra music" is limited to "classical" music. Far from it! The music I write maintains a sense of the familiar, melodically driven music of the time, but approaches it in a much more modern way.

  5. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  6. A: I write original music for films, short films, and multi-media, and I also offer orchestration services.
