Interview with Niklas Lundström

  1. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  2. A: It's creative, and it's always different!

  3. Q: What's your typical work process?

  4. A: I will start of by asking the clients for references of there favorite mixes so we get on the same page of what they are looking for in a mix and master. When it comes to start mixing I begin with importing the files into Logic, then cleaning up the edits, tuning up the vocals, quantizing and replacing/adding drum samples where necessary. When the song is all in time and in tune I will start with the drums - they are the foundation of the song. Then I mix in the bass, followed by guitars. Then add/enhance/replace synths and samples. I will then finally work on the vocals and the overall mix before proceeding to the mastering process.

  5. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  6. A: Have a vision about what you want your music to be

  7. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  8. A: Take short breaks often during the mixing and mastering process. It's easy to lose track of what you want to accomplish in the mix if you don't let your ears rest.

  9. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  10. A: Bringing a balance in the mix

  11. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  12. A: The most common type of work I do for my clients is mixing and mastering.
