Interview with Kyler Juhasz
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is a dynamic fusion of traditional hip-hop roots with a modern flair, characterized by innovative beats, compelling lyrics, and a keen sense for what resonates with listeners today. I also tend to incorporate other genre specific elements into my beats and productions to create new and interesting sound choices that stray for the norm.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Always serve the song and customer. Whether it's a beat, a lyric, or a mix decision, make sure every element contributes to the overall emotion and message of the track.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My process depends on what project I am undertaking but for a full song package I begin with a client consultation to understand their vision, then move to beat production or selection from my catalogue. After laying down the instrumental, I work on vocal recordings, mixing, and mastering, ensuring each step aligns with the client's goals.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I own a home studio consisting of a Roland Octa Capture with built in pre-amp, an Audio Technica Condenser Microphone to ensure warm smooth vocals, an M-Audio Midi Keyboard, an Audio Technica Vinyl Record Player for sampling, a Kramer Acoustic Guitar, and a Custom Fender Stratocaster. All centered around Reason, my primary DAW of choice.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I'm deeply inspired by the likes of Alchemist for his innovative beat-making, Pharrell for his unparalleled production mastery, and Kendrick Lamar for his lyrical depth and dynamic vocal delivery.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I fully recorded, engineered, produced, mixed and helped to master an EP for the Alternative Rap artists Dom Sawyer and Rio Raps that not only achieved significant streaming success but also facilitated a major breakthrough for the artist in their career. My role was integral in shaping the sound that perfectly encapsulated their identity and message.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm collaborating with emerging artists on a series of singles that blend hip-hop with electronic and world music elements, pushing boundaries and creating new soundscapes.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Not currently but I'm looking forward to connect with clients and like-minded artists!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both have their place. Analog for its warmth and character, digital for its precision and flexibility. The key is using each where it serves the music best.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise is to deliver not just a song, but a sonic experience that exceeds expectations, fully realizes the artist's vision, and makes a lasting impact on listeners.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love the process of collaboration—bringing together creative minds to forge something new and impactful. Seeing a project evolve from a simple idea to a completed track is incredibly rewarding.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: The most common question I get is, "Can you capture the unique sound I have in mind?" My answer is always, "Absolutely! Your vision is my blueprint. I dive deep into your musical inspirations and goals to ensure every beat, note, and lyric aligns perfectly with what you've envisioned. Let's create magic together, blending your ideas with my expertise to produce a track that's not only authentic to you but also resonates widely." This approach reflects my commitment to personalized, collaborative music production that respects the artist's originality while achieving professional, impactful results.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The biggest misconception is that production is just about making beats. It's about storytelling, emotion, and crafting a sound that complements the artist's vision and connects with the audience.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I inquire about their musical influences, the emotion or message they want to convey, and any specific sound or production elements they envision for their project.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Look for someone who not only has the technical skills but also shares your artistic vision and communicates openly to ensure your project achieves its full potential.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A laptop loaded with my DAW, a MIDI keyboard, a versatile condenser microphone, solar-powered battery pack, and a pair of open-back headphones.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been passionately involved in music production for over a decade, starting from a young enthusiast to a professional producer, constantly evolving by embracing new sounds and technologies.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I'd love to work with Anderson .Paak because of his versatile approach to music, blending soul, hip-hop, and R&B with infectious energy and profound lyrical depth.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: While I majorly work on Hip Hop and R&B, I thrive on exploring and creating across a spectrum of genres, from Pop to Afrobeat, ensuring each project is uniquely tailored to the artist's vision.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is my ability to seamlessly blend genres, creating fresh, innovative sounds that maintain commercial appeal while pushing musical boundaries.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a unique blend of creativity, technical skill, and a deep understanding of various musical genres, enriching each track with a distinct sound that resonates with listeners and stands out in the industry.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
