Tuscany based Mix and Master engineer, specialized in Rock & Metal genres, but experienced in anything between Classic Rock and Electronic music productions. Totally open to work on ANY kind of GENRE, and ANY kind of ARTIST and willing to help fullfill the creative and stylistic vision as efficiently as possible.
Hi, I'm Maximilian Scarpa, a lifelong Music-lover, Musician and Audio Engineer based in Tuscany, Italy, and my fascination for Audio Production and love for all kinds of music brought me here, to help bring YOUR VISION to life by making your work sound EXPRESSIVE, PROFESSIONAL and make it stand out by retaining its UNIQUE characteristics.
My goal as an engineer is the same as being a musician: COMUNICATION is the key to something great, especially when talking about ART, which mixing and mastering is to me first and foremost, before being a technical job.
Every musician, and therefore, any style of music has the potential to touch people, and my job is to make that happen by respecting industry standards, but mainly LISTENING & BASING my work all around the INDIVIDUALITY of your art.
I have 6 years of experience in both mixing and mastering, 4 years of recording on a professional level, and 12 years being a musician.
I built my project studio for music-making, from the initial spark of an idea, to the final master.
Attention to detail is a fundamental characteristic of my work, and a tight collaboration together with the artist is what helps and inspires me to get the most out of any project!
If you have any kind of additional question or want to work with me, please get in touch via the 'Contact' button above, and tell me all about your project, vision and goals!

Interview with Maximilian Scarpa
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: 100% based around color. I repeat myself a little bit here, but to me the secret ingredient to make music "pop" is personality and uniqueness. Everyone with a sufficient amount of skill can write a song that technically works, but making it personal is what makes it worth to be remembered. My job is to make listeners pay attention to, and remember the music.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Pretty much all the bands I mentioned above. They all inspired me in their unique way, and I would love to work with any of those artists one day.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Always get into the song-flow first before getting into the work-flow. The latter is the consequence of the first one.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: My backround lying in rock and metal music made me specialize in those genres, but my huge passion for electronic music, ranging from pop, to trip-hop, to big-beat and more, led me to discover a whole new world of artists and production styles therefore having the desire to explore, know and practice as much music as possible without any prejudice. In terms of clients, most jobs went into a more Alternative Rock, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal direction, with the exception of a few that ranged from Psy-Trance to Trip Hop to Jungle and Industrial.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Listening.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Personality. Uniqueness. Color. Sounds cliché, but though these are constant key-words in the industry, much of their characteristics are not to be found in many of the productions for top artists. My goal as an engineer is to make PERSONALITY COOL AGAIN and bring back the unique characteristics of each and every artist to the foreground, and essentially bring back the "Color" into the mainstream.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Before I start any kind of "work" I want to get to know the material I'm going to work with as well as possible, and that means getting to know my clients a little better by discussing their project, vision, plans for release, or taste/inspiration that led them to create/be what they created/are. After that I get to "work" and base my every move around what the artist wants for their track and/or give my input if needed and desired.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio is built around music-making. It consist of my drum set being at the very center of the room, surrounded by recording gear such as AKG, Shure, Lewitt microphones, various multi-channel pre-amps, and a desk where all the mixing and mastering happens, with big Braun speakers as the main sound source, a secondary set on the other side of the room, together with a record collection for referencing or pure enjoyment, and my workstation on which I run my DAW with various plug-in collections build over the years to produce the music I create or that gets sent in. On top, I have a keyboard, both for on-board sound recording and for MIDI for when I produce my own or client's tracks, and as of right now my own band's songs for an upcoming EP.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: One of the big names that inspired me the most in the industry is Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Rush, Alice in Chains, Korn, Evanescence, etc...) who produced and/or mixed some of the records I grew up listening to and gave them a very unique and easy to distinguish "color" that make for a signature sound of his production style that always complements the band he is working with. The bands listed above are some of my biggest inspirations as a musician, and to those I'd add Queen, Genesis, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Linkin Park, Metallica, Slipknot, System of A Down, Depeche Mode, Portishead, Massive Attack, The Prodigy, Micheal Jackson, just to name a few.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Being a drummer, I first started doing remote Live Drum recording sessions for clients, and later engineering tracks that got sent in. As of right now, I mostly mix and master songs.
