Interview with ProducedByDionnn
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: We can make a poorly recorded song or an objectively bad song concept sound good to other people.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Budgets Work Time Line Work Deadlines
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: The attitude of the person providing the service does impact the entire experience. They might be good technically but an awful communicator and might mess of the experience. However, if that doesn't matter much to you then that's fine too but just something to consider.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Laptop, Interface(any), Speakers(any), Asr10, and a Arturia mini v4
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been quality-sounding work for the last 3 years but I have been making music in general since I was 11 or 12 years old.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Free flowing, I like music a lot and love the people you meet doing this so I have built a lot of skill learning from those I meet and things I see. I never stop learning new things in this so it's hard to say a distinct style works all the time
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Amaria
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: TUNE YOUR EARSS Study music you like, obsess over it an figure out how to recreate elements that make you love the song.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop, Afrobeats, Rap, Punk Rock and Rnb
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Setting and creating the vibe that the artist is looking for in a mix. I have listened to all kinds of music as a child and up so I have a well-tuned ear which I use to make the best possible. Or maybe its luck I honestly can't tell sometimes
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: An open mind and a big imagination. This is your song so if you have a wild idea share it with me and we can figure out a way to try it out.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: With mixing I usually ask for verbal or written confirmation of how you want your song to feel, what message you want to send in the music and who would your audience be. From there I build the environment of the song with your instrument tracks and blend you vocals tracks (if any) to best center the artist where they need/ want to be in the song.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work from a laptop, an Apollo Twin I was blessed with. Headphones are HD 280s in a well-treated room with Yamaha HS5 monitors for reference use.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Leslie Brathwaite, Alex Tumay, Marc Frigo, there more but three is a good number.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: MOstof my work consists of music production as well as mixing songs for singles, eps and albums
