Cody Frost on SoundBetter

I am a session guitarist & vocalist, as well as touring engineer with over 10 years of experience.

Hello! My names is Cody Frost, and I am a singer, songwriter, guitarist, and engineer for Rock/Metal, Pop, and Country music! For 15 years I have been composing, recording, engineering, and performing as a Guitarist, Vocalist, Cellist, and Audio Engineer. I have written and recorded on songs featured on UFC, and NHL television broadcasts. As well as video game soundtracks such as Postal 3 & Postal 4.

• Instrumentally, I lean very much towards complimenting the song properly and emotionally, but also adding the technical flare when desired.
• Vocally, I have a warm timbre, capable of pleasantly soft performance to energetically harsh and screaming.

•As an engineer, I am very much an elicitor of my clients, and their desires to translate their thoughts and visions. I love working with most all genres, but most notably hard rock and metal. Capturing raw energy and turning it nearly cinematic is definitely what my peers and clients have come to know me for.

I specialize in:
- Guitar composition & performance
- Vocal performance & songwriting (harmonies, backing, & toplines)
- Cello composition & performance
- Audio engineering & sound design

I have known Cody Frost for approximately 10 years in various musical capacities. We first met when he worked at a local music store that I frequented. He worked on a few guitars I had that need some care. He was professional but with a sense of humor and approachable.

Cody has provided his audio engineering expertise at various venues my band has performed at from time to time. He exhibits professionalism and his expectations are high for performers as well. He is incredibly adept at engineering stage and front of house sound and always makes a band sound better.

Working with Cody has always been nothing short of a great experience! He’s insanely competent as a sound engineer, having mixed my various bands several times, and even more skilled when it comes to being a musician, be it on stage or in the studio.

Interview with Cody Frost

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: Most people would fail that "Pepsi challenge" so if it sounds good; it is good.

  3. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  4. A: I will treat the material as if it were my own in terms of care. And if it's not something I know I can benefit you with, I will guide you to what you're looking for.

  5. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  6. A: having files prepared, named, and in propper format before hiring can cut a massive amount of time off of the process. Know your session settings or media encoding settings. And try to provide the most intuitive resources you can. Like, if you have a vocal idea over the track to show what you think you want, send an instrumental version as well.

  7. Q: How would you describe your style?

  8. A: Aggressive, and introspective.

  9. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  10. A: Rob Graves, who is one of my favorite producers.

  11. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  12. A: Sometimes that part you keep thinking back on and debating changing because it's weird or stands out, might be the most memorable part of the song. So don't overthink it. If you have to convince yourself to remove something instead of just knowing it's wrong, you may be hesitating more than producing.

  13. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  14. A: Mostly heavy metal and rock music, but it's closely followed by country and hip-hop material as well.

  15. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  16. A: Emotional translation, and cinematic elements.

  17. Q: What's your typical work process?

  18. A: I like to spend a little more time understanding the emotion a client hopes to have expressed in the material. From there the rest is rather streamlined with my session templates and editing process after I've tracked my vocals or guitars. I spend most of my non-work hours cycling clients' material in the background in my spare time. The best ideas or thoughts tend to strike us when we're NOT at our desks or in the studio. If I keep the material in my head all day, I can pull away to strike the best idea whenever it comes to me.

  19. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  20. A: My inspirations are polarizing in similarities but I'd have to say that Aaron Lewis (Staind) & Noah Sebastion (Bad Omens) vocally inspire me the most. Guitar, I draw most of my inspiration from Clint Lowry (Sevendust), and Starset.

  21. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  22. A: While I'm primarily a guitarist, I am mostly hired for vocals.
