Stefano Parkovic on SoundBetter

Sound Designer focused in producing and composing soundtracks and sound effects for movies and games.

I am a creative individual who likes to create or build things in general, however, music and sound are some of my biggest passions. Since my childhood I have been always fascinated with art in general, but eventually music became my first big passion.

I am always trying to create something, so I have one blog on tumblr which I write about my thoughts and I also have two channels on YouTube, one is focused in music, it has some of my best compositions, the other is focused in ambience for game and movies.

Interview with Stefano Parkovic

  1. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  2. A: I would like to work with Bonobo one day, since he is one of the few artists that indeed impresses me. He seems to have a lot of artistic and technical knowledge about music and also he seems to be very original.

  3. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  4. A: The last video called "Forgotten City" that I have posted on my channel Hidden Lands is one of my favorite pieces of art that I have made. Also, of all my songs, my favorite compositions are "Leaves" and "Relative Reality", which are both on my YouTube channel S. Parkovic.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: I think both have its own pros and cons, so I don't have a preference for one or another. However in some cases analog may be better than digital and vice-versa.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: I promise that I will make something unique and remarkable.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: I like that I don't try too hard to impress and make overly complex pieces of music, I can make something great with little. I think complexity doesn't equal quality.

  11. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  12. A: Sometimes I feel like some individuals may judge me as an ordinary independent artist, which is not true, since I really dislike to be like everyone else, originality is one of the most important things for me.

  13. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  14. A: Is there any existing song or artist that has something you are looking for? Is there something I should know before starting your project?

  15. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  16. A: If you are looking something genuine and well-made, then I am what you need.

  17. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  18. A: A MacBook, FL Studio, Logic Pro, headphones and a MIDI keyboard.

  19. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  20. A: I became firstly highly interested in music back in 2013, when I was still a teenager, but I had very little knowledge and experience with music and sound. Throughout the years I started to listen to various artists from all music genres you can imagine, since classical to electronic music, then in somewhere around 2016 I started to make my first songs as an amateur. Then now in 2023 I thought I should give sound design a chance, because I have more than 10 years with familiarity with it.

  21. Q: How would you describe your style?

  22. A: My style is a mix of classical, modern and experimental influences.

  23. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  24. A: I believe having a large pool of knowledge in all music genres is an important feature, because it will build a sort of database in your mind, so if one day a client asks about a specific genre, it's likely you will already know something about it.

  25. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  26. A: I work mostly on soundtracks for movies, games and videos.

  27. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  28. A: I believe creativity, versatility and perseverance are my greatest skills.

  29. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  30. A: For me the most important thing in terms of music is beauty, if it's a composition that touches the listener it's already a great accomplishment. Also, I believe that we shouldn't only get inspiration from great and important artists but we should also try put our own unique elements in our songs, because originality will bring something new to the table, so I always try make that in my compositions.

  31. Q: What's your typical work process?

  32. A: In most cases I already have an idea of what I am going to do, but when I lack inspiration I listen to artists that might help me get new ideas. Normally when I start something and I don't like what I am doing I may try to improve it, however, if it's still not that good I restart it from scratch.

  33. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  34. A: Bonobo, Vangelis, Stelvio Cipriani, Haircuts For Men, St. Germain, Quantic, Ennio Morricone, DJ Shadow, Keith Mansfield and Francis Lai.

  35. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  36. A: The most common type of job that I do for my clients are soundtracks and sound effects for games/movies/videos.
