Interview with Toxic Gold
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I drove 2 hours to and from to college half of 2022, and 2023. We did a live concert, cover songs which I played piano on (Billy Joel- Vienna), finished a rap album, sample packs, business plan, life plan and use a high quality studio with a lot of varying gear. Along with college (mid-June 2023) I made 156 songs that were on my beat stars before I started experiencing major technical issues.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am re uploading my beats to soundee, and Trak train. Getting off beat stars as technical issues are crazy there. Making beats for a Dream ville artist, JID, and Griselda artist, Benny the Butcher. I am creating a soul catalogue for the new year. Heavily Soul Sample Type Beats going on my beat store, and working on putting out as much as I can on Spotify, band camp and my own website this year.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Me! I am very new to the platform !
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I use digital mainly on my laptop. But I have a older organ and something comes off from Analog that is so warm and beautiful. I will say I am digital because I work in digital mainly, but analog is juicy.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I work at a fast rate, pay attention to detail, and high quality plugins for mixing, and mastering.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: It is amazing to create music out of thin air. Feels like magic. One of the only things on this earth that can hold my attention for a long periods of time.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: I do not use autotune when mixing vocals. That requires another installment fee.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What is the vibe. How are you feeling. What are you going for with this product/project? and ideally it depends what type of client I am working for: Beat making, Music production: Send Reference tracks (songs, artist; you want to sound like) the more details, the more it helps me do my job example "I really love the drums from this song" or "I want a sample like this song". I ideally would like 3 to 7 tips on what you are trying to get out of your song. What is the overall emotion, vibe, or feeling you are trying to obtain. Mixing, Mastering, Composing: Send Reference Tracks. I need specifics about mixes. What about your reference songs do you like? and How do you want them applied to your overall beat? What is the overall vibe, emotion, feelings you are trying to obtain on this mix.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I really like to get things right the first time. I want to provide and high quality experience where you are ultimately happy with your product.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: SP 404 mk2 Akai Professional MPK 249 Laptop Guitar Bass
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been playing guitar since I was a 7 years old with a natural talent. I played guitar live performance throughout my teenage years. I started making beats in my early twenties, did for about 5 years, before attending Audio Engineering and Music Production course at Okanagan College in Kelowna, BC.

Q: What's your strongest skill?
