Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both have their pros and cons. As a guitarist, I prefer analog amplifiers and pedals, but I also appreciate the digital technology of Kemperamps and plugins. Sometimes, you need very specific equipment for certain sounds, which can often be unaffordable. The digital world also often offers a faster workflow, which I've come to appreciate.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Most of all, I enjoy the new challenges with each new project. Every song is different, requiring unique sounds and playing styles. This challenges me and provides the opportunity to learn and grow with each new job. Furthermore, I get to do what I love, making music.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: I would bring my semi-acoustic guitar, a Vox AC15, a small-diaphragm condenser microphone, and a MacBook with Logic. That would be a lot of fun. However, I would be missing all the necessary cables.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Core elements such as songwriting, instrumentation, and a strong performance are always more important than expensive equipment. Additionally, a well-written and well-performed song often requires fewer fixes in the mixing stage and can lead to a more natural, compelling sound.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I mostly work from my small home studio on a Mac using Logic. I have a modest collection of amplifiers, including an Orange Rockerverb, a Marshall cabinet with Celestion Greenback speakers, Cabinets with V30 and Eminence speakers. Additionally, my setup includes a Kemperamp, as well as some plugins and pedals. I also have access to a larger recording studio with a variety of familiar Fender and Vox amps, rooms of various sizes, and a professional selection of microphones.
