Endorse Lewis Young1 Reviews
Interview with Lewis Young
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love music, and I love working with people from different backgrounds with different styles. Each song has its own challenges, and I am just happy to be here.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: What is a 'Revision'? - I will do minor changes and adjustments to a section of your song. - This does not include full re-records. Can you sing in Korean? - Yes! (at an adjusted timeline/rate) Can you write lyrics in Korean? - Yes! (at an adjusted timeline/rate) What about ownership and using the vocals for commercial use? - I retain ownership of the vocals for usage. Any release/licensing should be discussed upfront. - For artist releases, I typically go 50/50.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What are the themes/inspirations for your song? What style vocals are you going for? What do you have prepared? Do you need an instrumental/lyrics/melody/mixing/listen-ready polished demo? What is your deadline & budget? Do you need stems?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Don't wait to ask questions and let me know about your ideas! I am happy to work with you to see your song through :)
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been working as a full time professional singer and producer since 2020. I moved to Las Vegas in 2021 to connect with professionals in the area, performing locally while producing and developing myself as an artist and producer. During that time, I gigged in LA and on the Vegas Strip, working with local talents. I have been working online, working on commercial projects, with major label artists, youtube personalities with millions of views, contributed to vocal packs, and worked with over 200 clients. In my personal projects I've made over 75 songs with ~30 released, and ~300k streams.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My personal style is vulnerable & real. I write my own songs from personal growth, from lessons learned, and from hopes for my future. I channel the energy I feel, whether its an emotional ballad, or just wanting something clever and fun to hum along to during my free time.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: I have two tips! 1. Do what you need to do to get the feeling across. Sometimes music production is chaotic and unpredictable- and a matter of 'good enough'. Phone recordings when outside pasted into a project, or messy imperfect playing are sometimes necessary to get the vibe. Allow yourself to play and experiment. 'Perfect' can come after. 2. Keep everything 'clean'. (recordings, arrangements, the mix, project files, etc.) This is pretty broad, but applies to everything, because it makes everything easier and better. Everything that goes into a song has a role to play, and the best songs understand and lean into this idea. For vocals, instrumentation, & composition, keeping each element in its own sonic space is the mark of quality. Sometimes this means removing the excess and carving out the overlap. Having clean, quality recordings of each sound boosts the likelihood that you can achieve that. (even if you are distorting heavily, that still has its own space!) And keeping your project files organized is always nice and helps you move faster in the long run.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop, R&B, Indie, EDM, Hip-hop, Folk, Rock, Cinematic
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Being able to jump into each unique project with a fresh perspective and having the skills to bring the best out of them. Each song has its own challenges, and I love to tackle those challenges with the tools I've gained on my journey. Over time, this has become my strongest skill- along with my voice.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring vocal excellence, musical understanding, and the ability to complete my clients vision. I am very comfortable performing in the modern sphere of pop, rnb, indie, rap, EDM, and folk, having worked with or recording with over 200 clients, and hundreds of songs. I understand the differences in vocal styles and inflections, as well as the vocal mixing differences that make me easy to work with. I produce rich, & powerful vocals, strong vocal technique in riffs, belting, mixed voice, rap styling, and falsetto that span nearly 4 octaves, and the creativity to make unique melodies people remember and enjoy. I am a strong songwriter- capturing the core of the message of each song. I am a capable producer/composer upon request as well. I am happy to troubleshoot, communicate, and find the best way forward for my clients song. One of the most important factors I provide is positive energy and share the excitement of helping my clients create something they are proud of.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My process begins with communication, and understanding my clients project. This includes the themes, concepts, scratch vocals, lyrics, inspiration, vocal styles, instrumentals, deadlines, budget, and the story they are trying to portray. Sometimes its a whole song, sometimes its re-recording a vocal. I fill what is needed. Once an order is confirmed and a budget & deadline is set, I let my client know what I will work on and will have by the deadline. The workflow goes in this order if a whole song is needed: Instrumental ->check for approval --> lyrics & lead melody --> scratch vocal --> official vocal recording --> harmonies, adlibs, doubles, vocal mixing --> integrating the vocal into the instrumental & master demo --> export .mp3 & .wav, stem packaging raw & with fx --> client approval & project delivery.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio setup consists of the studio essentials. A TLM 103 workhorse mic + Apollo twin interface Yamaha HS Series monitors A fender squire guitar + acoustic guitar Kawai ES120 full sized Keyboard for midi/production + a desk-seated 49 key midi keyboard Industry standard plugins for tuning, saturation, noise gating, reverb, eq, delays, compression, stereo imaging, instrumental mixing + mastering (Soundtoys, oeksound, Antares, Arturia, iZotope, Waves, etc.) My DAW of choice is FL25, of which I am advanced in. I have some experience with ableton and protools as well, but do not use these daily.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: For the longest time, my voice, production, mixing, and overall sound has been inspired by the likes of modern pop, rnb, indie and ballad singers. I also appreciate the unique textures and vocal mixes that modern rap artists are experimenting with. Some artists include Daniel Caesar, Lewis Capaldi, Adele, Teddy Swims, Doja Cat, Imagine Dragons, Frank Ocean, Sam Gellaitry, Verzache, Joji
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The majority of work I receive from clients is centered around vocals and vocal performance. Clients who have an instrumental and are in need of anything vocal-related come to me for solutions. This could be re-doing vocals or turning a scratch vocal into an official recording, toplining or melody creation, songwriting, harmonies, adlibs, and enhancing a song with my studio vocal skills. I deliver a polished & complete project with all vocal mixing. I also have knowledge of production, composition, and mastering, which I use as add-ons, included services, or additional services.
